About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

UK Digital Vehicle Pump: Cordless 12V Inflator for Fast Tyre Inflation Launched

A new, portable tyre inflator is now available in the UK - with AutoPump announcing its cordless, automatic device as a safer, faster, and more efficient inflation solution for motorists.

-- AutoPump has designed its new tyre inflator in response to rising calls for easier car maintenance solutions throughout the UK. Compatible with all manner of vehicles, from standard saloon cars and lorries to golf carts, ATVs, and motorcycles, the portable device brings an innovation to motorists - one that saves time and energy.

Under-inflated tyres are widely seen as an annoyance for British motorists, especially when coupled with the necessary yet laborious task of manually using a normal petrol station pump. The AutoPump, however, removes the hard work associated with tyre inflation, its manufacturers say - instead, making the process fully automatic and far more streamlined.

And as a rechargeable device, the AutoPump is built to remain useable in any setting. Whether drivers detect a tyre issue in a convenient location or not, they’ll no longer need to drive to petrol stations to remedy the problem, declares the company.

In the words of a representative: “The AutoPump comes with everything to get you out of any emergencies: USB-C lead for portable on-the-go charging, a UK plug adapter for home charging, and a 12V car lead for in-vehicle charging.”

AutoPump cites advice from Michelin UK in saying that car tyres will naturally lose air over time - and as such, drivers are urged to keep an eye on their pressure levels periodically. Failing to do so can result in lengthier braking distances, deteriorating tyre damage, and higher fuel consumption as the vehicle strains to adapt - each leading to reduced safety and environmental hazards.

The AutoPump is expressly built to prevent such hazards, enabled with a range of pre-set PSI targets. In fact, the device is capable of a 150 PSI output - more than sufficient to fully inflate conventional tyres, its designers explain.

This means that users can simply designate their preferred setting (for cars, motorcycles, or even footballs) and leave the connected device to work on their tyres - while a key auto-shutoff feature ensures that the AutoPump stops after reaching the target pressure level.

“I was, at first, very sceptical about using a new product like AutoPump with my 2018 Ford Focus,” said one recent customer. “But after getting a flat tyre due to a nail, it got me inflated quickly and allowed me to get to a garage and have the tyre repaired.”
