About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Elite Hail Systems Explores Eco-Friendly Applications For Paintless Dent Repair

In the face of growing calls for environmental considerations across the auto industry, Elite Hail systems are explaining the benefits of paintless dent repair.

-- May 16th, 2025 saw one of the worst hail storms in recent memory strike the St. Louis metro area, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to vehicles across the city. As Elite Hail Systems explains, however, repairing these vehicles is being made easier and more environmentally friendly thanks to new technologies.

The storm this past May is not an isolated event; hail storms have been increasing in severity and number for several years, and according to the NIU Newsroom publication on the matter, scientists predict that this trend will continue. While cosmetic damage to vehicles is most common in these incidents, larger hail poses a greater threat to windshields, windows, and even the safety of the occupants, according to a AAA report.

While, ultimately, nothing can be done to prevent the storms themselves, repairing cosmetic damage to vehicles on a large scale is becoming a more efficient process, as Elite Hail Systems reported. They recently highlighted new PDR, or paintless dent repair, technologies, which may offer a number of benefits to consumers and auto body workers alike.

PDR works as an alternative to traditional bodywork, and is most effective for small dents in the vehicle body—exactly the type that a hail storm might produce. PDR allows workers to deploy suction devices and body picks to manually remove dents without the need for chemical fillers, buffing devices, and other complex or potentially harmful processes.

More specifically, traditional bodywork, as Elite Hail Systems goes on to explain, often involves the use of harsh chemicals, requiring workers to wear protective equipment. Dent fillers also tend to generate microplastics and polymer waste in general, with many varieties containing particularly harmful VOCs, or volatile organic compounds.

Primarily due to a reduction in material costs, PDR may also be more affordable for the consumer than traditional dent filling. The removal of chemical curing agents and the instant nature of the PDR process also makes it a faster option, allowing providers to service more vehicles in a reduced time frame.

Elite Hail Systems hopes that the increasing adoption of PDR among service providers may be able to, at the very least, mitigate some of the financial consequences of climate change as severe hail events become more common. They also encourage consumers to research PDR providers in their area, as hail events can strike with very little warning, and the sooner one gets in contact with a repair shop, the earlier one will be able to receive service.
