Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

China Weekly Report: King Bird Consulting Ushers in a New Era for China's Strategic Consulting Industry

-- On August 1, China Weekly published a special feature on King Bird Strategic Consulting, a rising force in China's consulting industry. The report highlighted King Bird's insights into the future and innovation of the global strategic consulting sector.

Hong wen Zhu of King Bird Strategic Consulting noted that compared to the maturity of Western strategic consulting, China's strategic consulting industry is still in its early stages. However, he expressed strong optimism about its future.

Over the past decade, as China's comprehensive strength has steadily grown, global consumers have increasingly favored Chinese brands. Companies like Huawei, DJI, Haier, and Midea have further reshaped global perceptions of Chinese brands by expanding into international markets with their technological advantages. In short, the "cognitive door" for global consumers has been opened by Chinese brands, laying the foundation for more Chinese companies to enter the global market.

Currently, in the corporate strategic consulting industry, American brands still dominate. Well-known consulting firms such as McKinsey, Bain & Company, and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) are predominantly U.S.-based.

"Only by being excellent yourself can you teach others."

Hong wen Zhu, founder of King Bird Strategic Consulting, believes that while Western strategic consulting is highly developed, China's corporate strategic consulting sector is still in its infancy. For example, McKinsey, the "pioneer of strategic consulting," was founded in 1926.

Drawing a parallel to the advertising industry, in the 1980s, brands like KFC, Nike, Mercedes-Benz, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola entered the Chinese market. Advertising agencies serving these brands, such as Dentsu Young & Rubicam, quickly established branches in China, followed by Ogilvy and Saatchi & Saatchi.

This historical pattern suggests that the opportunity for strategic consulting is just beginning. Similarly, as Chinese brands go global, domestic strategic consulting firms will inevitably follow suit.

In the past, when American companies were dominant, businesses in emerging markets learned from U.S. management practices. Likewise, as Chinese companies grow stronger, firms in emerging markets will naturally turn to China for management insights. Only by excelling yourself can you guide others.

Corporate Culture: East vs. West

When discussing the differences between Chinese and Western corporate cultures, Hong wen Zhu pointed out significant distinctions. He explained that Western corporate culture emphasizes a competitive mindset, where winning the market means defeating rivals. For instance, the widely respected Western strategist Michael Porter authored Competitive Strategy, which posits that the essence of business is competition.

Chinese corporate culture, on the other hand, draws on ancient wisdom. As Mencius said, "A just cause gains great support, while an unjust one gains little." Simply put, companies must uphold correct values and contribute to society to earn customer recognition.

Overall, American strategic methodologies have both strengths and weaknesses. China, with its millennia of civilization, has accumulated vast historical wisdom that can distill profound corporate cultural principles. The goal is to integrate Eastern and Western methodologies, combining their strengths to create a new strategic toolkit.

Evolution of Methodology: The Dawn of "Scientific Strategy"

King Bird Strategic Consulting is committed to advancing strategic methodologies and introduced the concept of "Scientific Strategy" in 2024.

What is "Scientific Strategy"? Hong wen Zhu explained that traditional strategy formulation has been dominated by "creativity" and "experience." However, this approach relies too heavily on expert judgment, lacks scientific rigor, and often results in low strategic certainty. More alarmingly, strategy based on "experience" and "creativity" can lead to fatal errors.

"Evolutionary biology and behavioral science are making strategy more scientific. Renowned behavioral psychologists like Alexander Simon and Daniel Kahneman—both Nobel laureates in economics—demonstrate how consumer behavior influences socio-economic trends and corporate strategy," Zhu added.

King Bird's long-term research focuses on understanding the biases in human decision-making and the scientific logic behind consumer choices. Zhu noted that evolutionary biology and behavioral science can clearly explain the underlying mechanisms of human choices, as all psychological activities are driven by survival and reproduction instincts—a fact validated by neuroscience.

By deeply studying brain science, evolutionary biology, and neuroscience, King Bird explores how subconscious processes influence brand and product selection. The firm integrates these insights into strategic consulting, making corporate strategy formulation more scientific.

Hong wen Zhu stated that China's strategic consulting industry is just taking off. He hopes King Bird's "Scientific Strategy" approach will draw attention from peers and, more importantly, bring steady growth to Chinese enterprises. In the consulting industry, "case results" are the gold standard. Zhu emphasized that his team prioritizes "results-first" as the core principle in serving clients.
