About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Swell, the practice experience platform for healthcare, announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed co-founder Zeke Kuch as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Co-founder Drew Sparks will step down from day-to-day operations but will remain a member of the Board of Directors.

"I'm thrilled about Swell's direction and focus, which is what made it so difficult to step down," says Sparks. "But I feel the time has come for me to pursue new opportunities and watch Swell continue to grow from a distance. I have absolute faith in Zeke as a leader, and I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished together in my time at Swell."

"We're deeply indebted to Drew and his hard work creating and growing Swell as a company and product. We've seen tremendous growth and innovation with him at the helm, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors," says Board Member Benson Metcalf of 2.0 Ventures.

Thomas Lehrman of Teamworthy Ventures also noted that while it's sad to see Sparks step down, the board is excited that Swell's next evolution will be led by Kuch. "Zeke is a proven leader whose focus, tenacity, and charisma will usher in an exciting new era for Swell, and we know he'll continue their march toward greatness," says Lehrman.

Kuch previously held the role of President & Chief Revenue Officer at Swell, where he guided the marketing and sales organization to massive year-over-year growth, even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and other market disruptions.

"Drew has been essential to the success of the product and the business. Without him, we couldn't have built and scaled such a successful platform," says Kuch, "but with this transition comes a new beginning. I'm as excited as I've ever been about Swell and our next phase. We have huge plans underway that will change the way healthcare practices collect and manage patient and employee feedback."

Swell also announced an evolution to its product roadmap for 2023, which focuses exclusively on the healthcare space. "We're more focused than ever on helping healthcare organizations understand their practices inside and out. This includes helping them gather feedback from their patients and staff or providing insights across their entire brand. These insights are instrumental in helping practices solve the biggest problems facing healthcare today," says Kuch.
