About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Partners With Urban Edge Network to Create New Internship Program for HBCU Students

New Orleans, Louisiana, United States - 12-21-2022 (PR Distribution™) - Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Commissioner Dr. KiKi Baker Barnes today announced the names of eleven interns that will participate in the conference office Media Assistant Internship Program, sponsored by Urban Edge Network. This group of students, who are all enrolled at GCAC member institutions, are the inaugural class of this newly formed program.

“Our motto all year has been GCAC Rising, and launching our internship program was a key element of our rising,” says Baker Barnes. “I want to thank our media rights partner Urban Edge Network for giving life to our vision and sponsoring this program. They have been amazing partners in visioning and helping the GCAC be a change agent in athletics and higher education.”

A total of eleven students were selected for the inaugural cohort. One student from each school will serve on their campus, and three interns were designated GCAC interns.

“What was supposed to be an eight-intern program quickly blossomed into having three additional interns serve with us within our conference office structure,” said Baker Barnes. “UEN’s executives have a vision for the future as well and understand the goals we have to move our conference forward. Based on that vision and those goals, they immediately expanded our program to include 11 students.”

GCAC Director of Strategic Communications Dani Wright will oversee the program and GCAC Digital Marketing Coordinator Alex D. Williams and UEN Marketing Coordinator Faith Daniels will serve as internship coordinators and assist with the development and execution of intern tasks. Interns will help cover all GCAC sponsored sports and will write press releases for championships, maintain statistical records, assist with social media management, record and edit video content, and assist with content creation for HBCU League Pass+, the streaming site for the GCAC and its member schools.

“Commissioner Baker Barnes and her staff are blazing the trail for HBCUs, and we are honored to support their efforts to create new lanes for others to follow,” said UEN CEO Todd Brown. “The precedent they’re setting will create a strong legacy and allow many young people to have a deeply meaningful college experience.”
