About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Iowa Regional Event By The Tactical Games Kicks Off In July

The Tactical Games (TTG) is pleased to announce that the IA Regional Event at Brownells 2023 is set to take place at The Brownells Big Springs Shooting Complex on July 15 - July 16 (Searboro, IA). All interested parties are encouraged to look up competition rules and requirements as the date approaches. Registrations are still open as well and can be completed through the organization’s website.

The Tactical Games are open to anyone who is enthusiastic about firearms or strategy and considers themselves a competitor in these fields. It serves as a platform through which people of virtually any background can test their mettle against their peers, be they competition shooters, military or even civilians who have honed their skills on their own. Shooters and athletes are welcome if they wish to pit themselves against others at the top of their game.

Event organizers note that the Games are designed to be stressful and push competitors to their limits, so all who apply should be ready to bring their best form when they arrive. Fortunately, there are a number of resources available for those who wish to learn more about The Tactical Games or brush up their skills prior to the match. The same is true for event rules, and each competitor is expected to be fully up-to-date before they take to the field. A comprehensive list can be found on The Tactical Games’ official website.

Competitors who want the highest chance of doing their best during the match will be pleased to learn that TTG has built two distinct services to accommodate this need: in-person training and online training. While the former is strongly recommended for serious athletes, those who could not make it for in-person training for any reason are still encouraged to check out the online counterpart for tips and lessons on training regimens they can implement at home.

They are also invited to attend training programs after the Iowa Regional Event at Brownells 2023 has concluded. New matches are already in the works, and a missed opportunity today can be a chance to train more before making a splash at a future event.

Fans of The Tactical Games may already be familiar with The Tactical Games University (TGU), the TTG Athlete Camp and TTG Training Day. Perhaps the most prominent of these, TGU is a two-day training course that will help participants increase their proficiency operating weapon systems across TTG. Notably, this training welcomes those who are already adept (and wish to push their limits) as well as those who need to establish a foundation to work on. All skill levels are welcome here, and there is an emphasis on safety as well as capability.

The Tactical Games University targets marksmanship and efficient weapon system manipulation to develop an athlete's overall aptitude. From here, an athlete will be trained to use these skills on the field, identifying and utilizing shooting positions as required. TGU is also designed to simulate the overwhelming stress they will endure during The Tactical Games, and this has the advantage of producing athletes who can remain calm and professional under pressure at all times.

TTG Athlete Camp and TTG Training Day have a similar focus on pushing athletes to their limits. The former is a three day event that aims to improve both fitness and shooting skill, and participants are categorized into groups of peers at similar skill levels to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to elevate themselves without being overshadowed or held back.

On the other hand, Training Day gives athletes an opportunity to improve in specific aspects of TTG. Each day includes a morning brief, a shooting warm up, 3 shooting drills and a mock stage (which can be reset and re-run).

Dates and locations for training events, a full breakdown of The Tactical Games’ rules and more can be found on the organization’s official website. Online coaching is also available through the TTG app. Those interested in the event are invited to register now online.
