About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

VP Asphalt Paving Introduces Eco-Friendly Driveway Sealing Solutions in Connecticut

October 14, 2025 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

VP Asphalt Paving, a second-generation family-owned paving company with 36 years of industry experience, has launched a new high-tech, eco-friendly sealcoating service that meets Connecticut DEEP standards while providing cleaner application, faster drying times, and longer pavement life for driveways and parking lots across the state.

The company's new sealcoating system is coal tar-free and low-VOC, designed to protect both pavement and the environment. Using precision spray equipment and environmentally safe materials, crews can achieve a uniform finish that reduces waste and limits air pollutants. The process aligns with modern sustainability standards and supports the growing homeowner demand for cleaner, safer paving options.

"We've been sealcoating driveways in Connecticut for decades, but now we can offer a product that protects the pavement and the planet at the same time," said Waterbury native Victor Pagona, owner and operator of VP Asphalt Paving. "Homeowners notice the difference right away - there's less odor, quicker drying, and no harsh chemical smell lingering in the neighborhood."

According to Pagona, the shift to coal-tar-free sealers was driven by increasing environmental awareness and updates to state and federal standards. The company's chosen material follows guidance from the National Asphalt Pavement Association, which recommends low-VOC, asphalt-based coatings as safer, longer-lasting alternatives to traditional coal tar sealers.

The product used by VP Asphalt Paving of Connecticut is Latex-ite Ultra Shield, an asphalt-based sealcoat with a VOC rating under 25 g/L, and in some manufacturer tests, under 10 g/L, well below Connecticut's AIM driveway sealer limit of 50 g/L and the EPA's 100 g/L national standard for asphalt surface coatings. The formula is non-toxic, non-hazardous, and PAH-free, drying in as little as 15 minutes to minimize tracking and downtime.

Senior crew leader Mark Reynolds added, “The difference in smell and cleanup is night and day. We can finish a driveway, have it dry in minutes, and know we’re not putting anything harmful into the air or ground.”

The upgraded sealcoating process reflects the company's commitment to environmental responsibility and compliance. The new system meets or exceeds Connecticut AIM Coating Regulations and uses low-VOC, coal tar-free, and PAH-free formulations to reduce exposure risks for families, pets, landscaping, and soil. The company maintains Safety Data Sheets and labeling documentation for transparency while applying stormwater-aware techniques such as controlled edges and no-rinse cleanup to prevent runoff. The company is working toward EPA Safer Choice program and Green Seal certifications, further validating environmental performance.

Beyond compliance, the company follows a strict process developed through decades of field experience, including detailed site assessments to evaluate slope, drainage, and surface condition. Surface preparation includes cleaning, crack filling, and patching when needed, with measured application rates for even coverage and consistent film thickness.

The new eco-friendly sealcoating service is now available for both residential and commercial properties throughout Litchfield County, New Haven County, Hartford County, and Fairfield County. Within the Greater Waterbury area, the company frequently serves neighborhoods such as East Mountain, Bunker Hill, Town Plot, and the West End.
