About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

ANC Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. Completes Major Conversion to Cold Climate Heat Pump System at Ithaca Community Center

ENDICOTT, NY October 06, 2025 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

ANC Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. recently completed a comprehensive heating system transformation at the Lifelong Community Center in Ithaca, New York, replacing aging natural gas units with an advanced Daikin cold climate Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat pump system. The project demonstrates the growing trend of commercial facilities transitioning to all-electric heating and cooling solutions while eliminating fossil fuel dependency.

The Lifelong Community Center, which serves adults aged 50 and older in the Ithaca area, faced significant challenges when three of their four HVAC systems failed as cold weather approached. The facility required an immediate solution that would not only restore heating capabilities but also align with their sustainability goals and improve overall comfort throughout the building's diverse spaces, including offices, activity rooms, and common areas.

Conversion from Natural Gas to Cold Climate Heat Pump Ithaca NY

ANC Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. designed and installed four independent VRF systems to provide zone-specific climate control across the facility. The installation included a variety of indoor unit types—wall-mounted, ceiling cassette, floor console, and ducted options—customized to meet the specific needs of each space. Additionally, two RenewAire energy recovery ventilators were integrated to ensure proper fresh air circulation throughout the building.

"The Lifelong Facility was looking to transition from using natural gas to an all-electric high efficient Cold Climate Heat Pump system. System Design, Budget, System Incentives, and Installation Timeframe were fast tracked due to failed existing equipment. ANC accomplished just that, added comfort and eliminating the need to natural gas," said Lloyd Knecht III, Owner of ANC Heating & Air Conditioning Inc.

The Conversion from Natural Gas to Cold Climate Heat Pump in Ithaca NY resulted in significant benefits for the community center. The new system provides quiet, efficient operation with individual thermostats offering precise zone-by-zone temperature control. The all-electric design successfully eliminated the facility's reliance on fossil fuels while improving indoor air quality and comfort levels across all areas of the building.

Liza Burger, Executive Director of Lifelong, praised the installation team's responsiveness and expertise. "Just as the weather turned cold, three of our four HVAC systems failed. ANC guided us through every step with professionalism and care. They fast-tracked design, rebates, and installation — even keeping our building warm the whole time. Thanks to ANC, Lifelong is now fully electric, more efficient, and more comfortable than ever."

The project secured over $158,000 in energy rebates through various incentive programs, demonstrating the financial viability of transitioning to electric heat pump technology. The successful installation showcases how modern VRF systems can meet the heating demands of commercial facilities in cold climates while supporting environmental sustainability goals.
