About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Red Carpet Runner's Black Carpet Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, Prince of Darkness

-

LOS ANGELES, CARed Carpet Runner honors the life of an industry titan by promoting black carpet runners for upcoming events and concerts! Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and a foundational architect of heavy metal, has passed away at the age of 76. He died peacefully at home on July 22, 2025, surrounded by family, just weeks after delivering an unforgettable final performance in his hometown of Birmingham.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020 and having battled numerous health challenges, Osbourne's final public act was one of grace, grit, and gratitude. On July 5, 2025, he reunited with original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for a globally streamed farewell concert titled "Back to the Beginning" at Villa Park. Performing from a seated throne, Ozzy delivered a thunderous and emotional swan song before 45,000 fans and millions of global viewers.

Honor Ozzy Osbourne with Black Carpet Runners

The concert, hailed by critics as "the black mass of rock’s soul," featured tributes from Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and more. Proceeds from the event, exceeding £140 million, were donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and the Cure Parkinson’s Trust. Fans and critics agree that it was not merely a concert—it was a historic convergence of musical legacy, hometown pride, and raw emotional farewell.

Ozzy's five-decade career began in 1968 with Black Sabbath, launching a genre and a cultural movement. With iconic albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality, the band redefined rock. After departing Sabbath in 1979, Ozzy's solo work, including Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman, further solidified his status. Songs like "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley" remain rock anthems. His music has inspired generations of artists, defining the sound and aesthetic of heavy metal across the globe.

He became a household name in the 2000s with MTV's The Osbournes, a trailblazing reality show that revealed the chaotic charm of the Osbourne family. Despite infamous moments—including biting the head off a bat on stage in 1982—Ozzy was also known for his humor, vulnerability, and enduring love for his wife Sharon, to whom he was married for 43 years. His ability to laugh at himself and show affection publicly only deepened fans’ admiration.

Ozzy is survived by his wife Sharon, children Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, and legions of devoted fans. His final performance was a homecoming and a full-circle moment, reminding the world why he was beloved not just as the Prince of Darkness, but as a symbol of resilience and rebellion. His influence extended beyond music, reaching into fashion, television, and even philanthropy.

Edward A. Baker, founder of Red Carpet Runner and long-time fan, shared: “My first rock concert ever was Ozzy Osbourne—sweat, roar, mayhem, magic. He cracked the world wide open. That energy reshaped me forever.” Baker added, “As a tribute, we are calling on venues and fans to roll out black carpets—a dramatic, respectful gesture that speaks to the man’s legacy. Ozzy always did things differently, and so should we in honoring him.”

In honor of his legacy, fans are proposing that black carpets be rolled out at memorials around the world—a bold inversion of Hollywood glamour to honor the king of the underworld. This symbolic act would celebrate not just the man, but the myth, the movement, and the music he embodied.

Through his music, his mayhem, and his unyielding spirit, Ozzy taught the world how to turn darkness into anthem. He showed that even the wildest souls could grow, evolve, and inspire. His voice may be silent now, but its echo will thunder on.
