The Dallas Way Presents: Outrageous Oral, Volume 33

Former Dallas mayor Laura Miller, council members Chris Luna, Veletta, and Forsythe Lill join Steve Atkinson in a discussion on groundbreaking non-discrimination ordinances in Dallas as part LGBT History Month.

DALLAS - Oct. 1, 2024 - PRLog -- The Dallas Way celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month with Outrageous Oral, Volume 33: A Discussion on Groundbreaking Non-Discrimination Ordinances in Dallas about the pivotal non-discrimination ordinances passed by the Dallas City Council, Dallas School Board, and DART Board from 1995 to 1997, on Tuesday, October 8, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in The Rose Room at S4.

The Dallas Way distinguished panelists include:

  1. The Honorable Laura Miller: Former Mayor of Dallas (2002-2007), Miller is known for her transition from journalism to politics. She served as the 57th mayor of Dallas, and her tenure focused on various urban development initiatives and civic improvements.
  2. The Honorable Chris Luna: A former Dallas City Council member, Luna has extensive experience in local government and non-profit leadership. He has served on numerous boards, including the Dallas Theater Center and The Dallas Assembly.
  3. Cece Cox, J.D.: CEO of Resource Center, Cox is a prominent advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community in Dallas. She has been recognized for her effective leadership and long-standing commitment to advancing equality and providing essential services to the LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS communities.
  4. The Honorable Veletta Forsythe Lill: A former Dallas City Council member (1997-2005) and the founding Executive Director of the Dallas Arts District (2008-2012), Lill has been a significant figure in Dallas politics and arts advocacy for decades.
  5. Steve Atkinson: As President-Elect of The Dallas Way, Atkinson will serve as the moderator for this important discussion.
"Outrageous Oral, Volume 33, is a pivotal event in our ongoing mission to preserve and share Dallas's LGBTQ+ history. The non-discrimination ordinances passed between 1995 and 2002 were watershed moments for our community," said Robert Emery, president of The Dallas Way. "This panel of distinguished speakers will share their experiences and insights into creating and implementing these groundbreaking ordinances, which have shaped Dallas into a more inclusive city."

The Dallas Way continues its mission to gather, store, organize, and present the complete GLBT history of Dallas through events like Outrageous Oral. This volume promises to be an informative and inspiring look at a crucial period in Dallas's journey toward equality.
