About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Total Joint Replacement Surgery
Samuel Lake, M.D., Becomes First to Perform Robot-Arm Assisted Total Joint Replacement Surgery Using New System at an ASC

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Oct. 1, 2025 - PRLog -- Samuel Lake, M.D., is the first surgeon in Illinois to offer the Stryker Mako 4 System for Total Knee, Partial Knee and Total Hip at a free-standing ambulatory surgery center (ASC), Suburban Orthopaedics announced today.

Dr. Lake is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in complex hip and knee replacement surgery and is a partner at Suburban Orthopaedics. He has performed hundreds of robotic arm assisted hip and knee replacements in hospital and ASC settings and now has welcomed the opportunity to be the first surgeon in Illinois to offer his patients joint replacement surgery using the newest generation Stryker Mako 4 at Ashton Center for Day Surgery.

"With Mako SmartRobotics™, I can utilize a CT scan to create a personalized surgical plan based on each patient's unique anatomy before entering the operating room," said Dr. Lake. "During surgery, I can confirm my plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute the intended surgical plan. It's exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line."

Mako SmartRobotics' 3D CT-based planning coupled with AccuStop™ haptic technology can help surgeons plan for better outcomes like less pain and quicker recovery times compared to manual surgery, helping patients get back to the things they love, quicker. Mako Systems combine Stryker's advanced robotic technology with Mako SmartRobotics™ for Total Knee, Partial Knee, and Total Hip applications.

ASCs as a hospital alternative have transformed the outpatient experience for millions of Americans. "For appropriate candidates, an ASC is a safe, convenient, and cost-effective option, and we are proud to be the first center in Illinois to offer patients same-day joint replacement surgery using the Stryker Mako 4 System," said Dr. Lake. "Patients who undergo robotic arm assisted total joint replacement at our center will go home the same day."

"The Stryker Mako 4 System was selected as the latest and most advanced robotic arm assisted technology, the fourth iteration in a series with a strong track record of proven results," added Ashton Administrator and Chief Operating Officer Johny Antony. "And now, for the first time, patients in Illinois have the option to benefit from this innovative system in an ambulatory surgery center. With Mako SmartRobotics™, we are demonstrating our commitment to offer patients the best care available."
