Jewish families around the world are getting ready for the upcoming holiday of Passover, an eight day celebration that starts on April 12.

Families are planning menus for the festivities, which includes the Seder, a special ritual meal, and the consumption of unleavened bread called matzah.

The central part of the celebration –  the Seder—is when the story of Passover is recited, recounting the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery.  In addition to the meal, a main highlight of the Seder is the wine, in which participants drink four cups of wine to remember the Ten Plagues that struck Egypt during the Exodus.

What to look for when buying kosher wines for Passover

• Check the label to confirm if the wine is mevushal or non-mevushal.
• Make sure the wine is kosher for Passover, which means it has been supervised and prepared in a certain way.
• Check that all ingredients, including yeasts and fining agents, are kosher.
• Make sure no preservatives or artificial ingredients are used.
