About Cabling Installation & Maintenance:

Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals.

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on:

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

CTA Construction Managers Begins Construction on New Net Zero Fort River Elementary School

CTA Construction Managers was awarded the construction contract for Fort River Elementary School, a new state-of-the-art, 105,750-square-foot building that will accommodate 575 elementary school students in Amherst, MA.

(PRUnderground) April 1st, 2025

CTA Construction Managers recently started construction of the new Fort River Elementary School, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide an exceptional learning environment for the community’s children. This 105,750-square-foot, three-story building will accommodate 575 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, effectively replacing the existing Fort River and Wildwood Elementary Schools.

Emphasizing Amherst’s commitment to sustainability, Donna DiNisco, President of DiNisco Design, the firm that designed the school said “The new school is designed as a Net Zero energy building. It will feature both building-mounted and canopy-mounted photovoltaic panels, alongside a ground source heat pump mechanical system supported by 85 geothermal wells. These innovations ensure that the facility will generate 100% of its energy needs on-site, aligning with the town’s environmental goals.” DiNisco Design has also successfully collaborated with CTA Construction Managers to complete many other schools over the past two decades.

“The project has been meticulously planned to ensure fiscal responsibility. Construction bids were opened on September 17, 2024, with CTA Construction Managers LLC of Waltham, Massachusetts, submitting the lowest bid at $73.48 million, contributing to total project savings of $4.8 million to date,” said Paul Bockelman, Amherst Town Manager.

“We broke ground last month and our crews have been working on concrete building foundations to be followed shortly by erection of the steel structure. The new school is expected to open its doors to students in the fall of 2026. Demolition of the existing structure will follow, with all remaining site work projected to conclude by late spring/early summer 2027,” said Jeff Hazelwood, Principal at CTA Construction Managers.

This project represents a significant milestone in Amherst’s dedication to providing top-tier educational facilities while promoting environmental sustainability.
