They analyzed this data, assisted by AI technology, and discovered detectable patterns. In patients with severe tinnitus, the pupils became dilated with exposure to all types of sound, indicating a state of distress. Patients with less severe tinnitus showed milder responses. Only upon exposure to unpleasant sounds did they experience pupil dilation and detectable facial reactions.
