About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Vardhaman Charitable Foundation Supports UT-Austin with $1M Gift to Advance the Study of Jainism and South Asian Religions

Dr. Jasvant Modi and Vardhaman Charitable Foundation support $1 million gift to establish the Jain Studies Professorship at UT-Austin, marking a historic milestone for Jain education in the West.

(PRUnderground) August 12th, 2025

Vardhaman Charitable Foundation, led by Drs. Jasvant and Meera Modi, along with Jain Community members, announced a $1 million gift to the University of Texas at Austin to establish The Tirthankar Sumatinath Distinguished Professorship in Jain Studies. Housed within the Department of Asian Studies in UT-Austin’s College of Liberal Arts, the professorship becomes the 24th of its kind globally, symbolizing the completion of the sacred lineage of the 24 Jain Tirthankaras.

The announcement was celebrated at a special event hosted by the Jain Vishwa Bharati (JVB) Center in Houston, where over 100 community members, dignitaries, and six UT-Austin faculty gathered. The event opened with a recitation of the Navkar Mahamantra by Samanijis from Houston and Miami, emphasizing Jainism’s foundational values of Ahimsa (non-violence), Anekantavada (tolerance), and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness).

Dr. Jasvant Modi, a longtime supporter of Jain academic initiatives, stated, “This ALC collaboration with UT-Austin fulfills our call for action to invest in peace, nurture compassionate global citizens, and shape resilient communities for generations to come.” His vision aligns with UT-Austin’s mission to create leaders who integrate ethical and philosophical insights into real-world impact.

The professorship will offer year-round courses and research opportunities that integrate Jain values with subjects like ethics, sustainability, peace studies, and organizational leadership. The position will report to Professor Donald R. Davis, Chair of the Department of Religious Studies, who joined UT faculty members in expressing gratitude for the gift, noting its power to expand Jain studies to broader audiences through academic and community outreach.

Additional remarks from UT-Austin’s Dean David Sosa and Professor Akbar Hyder highlighted how the partnership will elevate critical inquiry into Jain teachings on campus and beyond.

This professorship adds to a growing global network of Jain academic programs, including recent initiatives at Claremont School of Theology, University of Arizona, and Oxford University, all supported by the Jain Academic Liaison Committee and VCF.
