About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

HBCU Executive Leadership Institute Announces the Willa B. Player Executive Leaders Program

Innovative initiative hosted at Clark Atlanta University to address challenges shaping higher education in America

(PRUnderground) August 21st, 2025

The Executive Leadership Institute at Clark Atlanta University (HBCU ELI) today announces the launch of the “Willa B. Player Executive Leaders Program” (WBP Leaders Program), an ongoing initiative crafted to fortify leadership in higher education. The program’s robust curriculum undergirds participants’ capacity to lead with vision, resilience and cultural stewardship, with an emphasis on supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Named in honor of Dr. Willa B. Player—the trailblazing president of Bennett College who led the institution to groundbreaking accreditation and championed human rights causes—the program offers immersive leadership, mentorship, and strategic development resources to new and experienced executive leaders shaping the future of education and community progress.

“This initiative is timely and essential,” said Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins, Executive Director of HBCU ELI, 18th President of Bennett College. “Building the capacity of the next generation of executive leaders ensures that our institutions remain anchored in purpose, gain strength from their legacies, and continue to expand their societal impact.”

Compelling Data: Higher Education’s Urgent Need
According to Deloitte’s 2025 Higher Education Trends report, over 58% of current higher education leaders are projected to retire within the next decade, signaling an urgent demand for robust succession planning and leadership development. Historically significant institutions, including HBCUs, contribute more than $14.8 billion annually to the national economy, underscoring the critical need for leaders prepared to advance this impact.

The WBP Leaders Program curriculum includes advanced modules in governance, financial stewardship, stakeholder relations, and institutional innovation. Participants will engage in group coaching by seasoned executive mentors, on-the-ground residencies, virtual seminars, and wellness training. Collectively, the immersive experience will increase their capacity as strong and resilient executive leaders who are well-positioned and ready to shape higher education in America.

“Dr. Player’s seminal path continues to inspire,” said Dr. Juliette B. Bell, WBP Program Coordinator. “By supporting leaders who can uphold institutional legacies and also pioneer new frontiers in higher education, we’re making an investment in both heritage and enduring impact.”

Applications for the 2026 cohort open Aug. 20, 2025 with the program commencing Oct. 1, 2025. For more information, visit hbcueli.com.
