About Cabling Installation & Maintenance:

Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals.

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on:

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

NSGW Historical Preservation Foundation Grant Transforms Fiddletown Schoolhouse

A grant from the Native Sons of the Golden West has restored the historic Fiddletown Schoolhouse, enhancing its safety and accessibility for future generations.

(PRUnderground) August 8th, 2025

Two years after a pivotal grant from the Native Sons of the Golden West Historical Preservation Foundation (NSGW HPF), the historic one-room schoolhouse in Fiddletown stands safer, stronger, and more welcoming than it has in decades.

In August 2023, the NSGW HPF awarded funding to support a series of essential safety and preservation upgrades at the site. The project included constructing a structurally sound new walkway, rebuilding the front steps, and installing skirting boards beneath the porch to protect the foundation and preserve the building’s original aesthetic. New lighting and signage were also added to improve visibility and visitor engagement.

“We’re proud to support community-led efforts like this one,” said a representative from Native Sons of the Golden West HPF. “Preserving California’s historic structures helps us maintain our shared heritage while ensuring that future generations can experience it firsthand.”

Originally built in the 1860s, the Fiddletown Schoolhouse served local students well into the 20th century and remains a treasured community symbol. The recent upgrades ensure it can continue to host educational tours, community events, and historical exhibitions safely and accessibly.

Local residents have welcomed the transformation. “This building has always been part of our town’s soul,” said a Fiddletown community member. “Thanks to the Native Sons, it’s now a place we can gather and share our history with pride.”

The project was a collaborative effort between local volunteers, the Amador County Historical Society, and preservation professionals, demonstrating the power of partnership in preserving California’s past. The visible improvements have reignited community interest, with several new events already scheduled at the site this fall.

As the Native Sons of the Golden West approaches 150 years of service, its commitment to safeguarding California’s heritage continues to evolve. Today, its members reflect the breadth of the state itself—united not by background, but by a shared passion for protecting the places and stories that define the Golden State. Through strategic partnerships, volunteer engagement, and philanthropic support, NSGW is connecting communities with their past and paving the way for a more informed and inclusive future.

The organization welcomes all who believe in honoring history and uplifting the community to join in its mission of remembrance, restoration, and resilience.
