About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Why Power Integrations (POWI) Stock Is Up Today

POWI Cover Image

What Happened?

Shares of semiconductor designer Power Integrations (NASDAQ: POWI) jumped 4.9% in the afternoon session after the stock's positive momentum continued as the company detailed its new, more efficient PowiGaN gallium-nitride technology for next-generation AI data centers and announced a collaboration with NVIDIA.

At the 2025 OCP Global Summit, the company explained that its industry-first 1250 V and 1700 V PowiGaN technology supported the transition to 800 VDC power architectures needed for power-hungry AI systems. Power Integrations revealed it was working with NVIDIA to speed up this shift. The company's new chips were shown to be more efficient, achieving over 98% efficiency, and offered greater power density compared to competing silicon carbide devices or stacked gallium-nitride transistors. This breakthrough helped simplify the design of server racks, use space better, and reduce the amount of copper needed. The advanced technology also had applications beyond data centers, targeting the growing market for 800-V electric vehicle powertrains and charging infrastructure, which positioned the company to gain share in high-growth markets.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Power Integrations’s shares are very volatile and have had 21 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was about 23 hours ago when the stock gained 20.2% on the news that the company detailed its collaboration with NVIDIA to advance its PowiGaN gallium-nitride technology for next-generation AI data centers.

Power Integrations is down 24% since the beginning of the year, and at $46.19 per share, it is trading 32.1% below its 52-week high of $68.05 from November 2024. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Power Integrations’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $761.25.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business. While Nvidia and AMD are trading close to all-time highs, we prefer a lesser-known (but still profitable) semiconductor stock benefiting from the rise of AI.
