About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

BigCommerce Checkout Enhancement: Accommodating Split Shipping for FFL and Non-FFL Items

As new ecommerce demands evolve, we’re committed to ensuring your online store grows and thrives. Clients like Staccato, a distinguished veteran-led company celebrated for its precision-crafted firearms and gear, are testaments to our shared vision of success.

Building on our previous custom solution that introduced and highlighted preferred FFL dealers, we’re excited to announce a checkout enhancement that introduces more shipping flexibility for FFL and non-FFL items, enhancing the shopping journey for Staccato’s diverse clientele.

FFL and Non-FFL Item Requirements

Adherence to Federal Firearm License (FFL) regulations isn’t merely a bureaucratic necessity; it’s a vital aspect of maintaining integrity and safety when selling firearms online. For gun dealers, integrating FFL functionality into their purchase processes is pivotal for upholding legal standards and fostering trust with customers.

However, complexity arises when customers want to purchase both FFL and non-FFL items within the same transaction. This presents a unique challenge as FFL items necessitate a specialized checkout process, requiring pickup at a certified FFL dealer.

Staccato’s introduction of split cart functionality addresses this challenge head-on, ensuring that regulatory compliance remains at the forefront while the shopping experience remains seamless.

New FFL Checkout Functionality: Accommodating Mixed Carts of FFL and Non-FFL Products

A major enhancement in Staccato’s online store is a new checkout configuration that addresses the issue of mixed carts. Previously, if a customer had a cart containing at least one item requiring an FFL shipment, the entire cart needed to be shipped to an FFL dealer.

To improve customer experience with shipping of FFL and non-FFL products, our BigCommerce developers created a split cart functionality that separates FFL and non-FFL items during the checkout process.

Here’s how it works:

  • Non-FFL items can now ship directly to the customer’s home.
  • FFL items are shipped to an FFL dealer, adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • This streamlined approach offers greater flexibility and convenience for customers, making it easier to shop for a mix of items on Staccato’s online store.
  • The Ebizio Checkout application will have a new Product Group configuration added to allow designating items that are “ship with FFL” items
  • The Ebizio Checkout application will have logic and UI customizations added to enforce the following rules:
    • If the cart contains an FFL item and a “ship with FFL” item, the entire order must ship to an FFL dealer
    • If the cart contains an FFL item and “don’t ship with FFL” items, the order will be split into two shipments where the FFL item must ship to an FFL dealer and all other items must ship to an additional ship to address provided by the customer at checkout
  • The Ebizio Checkout application will be updated to ask customers for a single address when multi-shipping is enforced (rather than using the native approach of asking customers for an address per line item

Customize Your BigCommerce Checkout for FFL Compliance

In the ever-evolving world of online retail, regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction are paramount. With the introduction of split cart functionality for Federal Firearm License (FFL) and non-FFL items, Staccato has taken a significant step forward in streamlining the checkout process while ensuring adherence to legal standards.
