About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Local Auto Detailer Thomas John Rowland Shines Spotlight on Volunteering and Everyday Acts of Kindness in New Feature Interview

By: Zexprwire

St. Louis, MO, 23rd July 2025, ZEX PR WIRE, Thomas John Rowland, a respected local automotive detailer known for his dedication to family, hard work, and community values, is using his recent feature in a lifestyle magazine to advocate for an often-overlooked cause: everyday volunteering and small-scale community action.

In the interview, Thomas opens up about his journey from working at his parents’ childcare center to becoming an automotive detailer. But beyond cars, Rowland’s message centers on compassion—particularly toward animals and underserved communities.

“Volunteering at Second Chance Ranch really changed me,” Rowland shares in the interview. “Working with older rescue dogs taught me patience. It taught me to slow down and pay attention to the little things in life.”

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. shelters every year. Yet, fewer than half of older dogs are adopted, making Rowland’s message even more urgent.

He also reflects on his family’s long-standing tradition of supporting a local food pantry in St. Louis. His parents, who operated a childcare center for three decades, regularly donated holiday gifts, food, and school supplies to struggling families.

“Sometimes people think they need to have a lot of money or time to make a difference,” Rowland says. “But it can be as simple as dropping off a bag of dog food at a shelter or packing up some school supplies for a kid who needs them.”

Rowland’s call to action focuses on encouraging individuals to start small—whether by volunteering at a local shelter, donating to a food pantry, or helping a neighbor.

“You don’t need to wait for the right time,” he adds. “Start with what you have. Even little things stack up over time.”

He also highlights the importance of building compassion through action, not just words. “Spending time with animals or lending a hand in your community teaches you patience and makes you appreciate the work others do every day,” he explains.

In a world where many people feel disconnected or overwhelmed, Rowland’s story is a reminder that personal involvement and hands-on kindness remain powerful tools for change.

Call to Action:

Rowland encourages others to take the first step toward community engagement.

  • Visit your local animal shelter and ask about volunteer needs.

  • Pack up spare clothes or household items for a local food drive.

  • Start a family tradition of donating school supplies each summer.

As Rowland says, “It’s not about how much you do—it’s about showing up and doing something.”
