About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Jesse Vierstra Calls for a Return to Grit, Faith, and Purpose in a Noisy World

By: Zexprwire

Idaho builder urges others to reflect, reset, and build a life that matters

Idaho, US, 30th July 2025, ZEX PR WIRE, Jesse Vierstra, founder of Iron Oaks Custom Homes and author of Under the Red Oak Tree, is using his personal story to raise awareness about the power of grit, discipline, and inner strength in today’s fast-moving world. Drawing from his background in farming, construction, faith, and personal growth, Jesse is encouraging others to look beyond shortcuts and find success in honest, meaningful effort.

“There’s no shortcut to success—just small, steady steps and showing up every single day,” says Jesse Vierstra. “I grew up on a dairy farm. If you didn’t do the job, animals suffered. That’s where I learned that responsibility isn’t optional—it’s the standard.”

Jesse started his homebuilding business in 2018 with limited resources. Since then, he’s built over 50 custom homes, launched multiple businesses, and created a solar energy platform for farms. He did it all without investors, flash, or fanfare—just persistence and daily discipline.

According to a recent study by the American Psychological Association, 77% of adults report feeling overwhelmed by the pace of life. Yet, research shows that simple routines, goal-setting, and reflection reduce stress and increase long-term satisfaction. Jesse agrees—and says it’s time we talk about it.

“We live in a world of fast answers and constant pressure,” he says. “But peace doesn’t come from getting everything done. It comes from knowing you did your best—and that takes planning, faith, and showing up.”

Vierstra’s call to action is less about joining a cause and more about making a choice. He encourages people to slow down, write down their goals, and think about what truly matters in their lives.

“You don’t need a massive plan,” he explains. “You just need to move forward, even if it’s one small thing today. That’s how I started. That’s how I keep going.”

Jesse also created the Ryan Franklin Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of a friend and to support community causes. His efforts reflect a broader belief in building not just businesses, but relationships and legacy.

“Ryan was someone who showed up for people. That’s what we need more of—people who are present, not perfect,” Jesse says.

What Can You Do?

Jesse’s message is clear:

  • Write it down. Define your goals, then break them into micro steps.

  • Stick to your values. Let honesty, effort, and purpose guide your work.

  • Show up. Especially on the days you don’t feel like it.

  • Serve others. Volunteer, give back, or simply show kindness.

  • Find stillness. Whether it’s through journaling, prayer, or quiet time—make space for peace.

“This isn’t about me,” Jesse says. “It’s about showing others that you can start small, be honest, stay focused, and build a life that means something.”
