VMware Named a Leader in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Desktop as a Service (DaaS)

Positioned by Gartner as a Leader as VMware executes well against its current vision

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) today announced it has been positioned as a Leader in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service (DaaS). Gartner named VMware a Leader for its completeness of vision and ability to execute.

As the workforce becomes more distributed, securely delivering and managing services to end users with traditional or legacy desktop and app tools has become increasingly difficult. VMware Horizon Cloud provides IT with a modern, flexible approach to deliver, protect, and manage desktops and applications as a service across single cloud, hybrid, or multi-cloud environments.

“The demands of today’s distributed workforce require IT organizations to offer flexible and more secure solutions that can help provide exceptional employee experiences,” said Shankar Iyer, senior vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. “As part of our Anywhere Workspace solutions, VMware Horizon Cloud gives IT a DaaS platform that offers employees the freedom to work in the environments they prefer, while enabling IT to flexibly deliver modern DaaS services using their clouds of choice.”

VMware Horizon Cloud provides a Desktop as a Service solution that can modernize desktop delivery and Day 2 operations, scale flexibly across cloud providers, and help provide end-to-end security. Organizations can build a hybrid and multi-cloud desktop and app virtualization architecture, deploying Horizon infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud, managed through a single pane of glass using cloud management services. IT can also configure automations leveraging Horizon Cloud’s APIs, Workspace ONE Intelligence and Freestyle Orchestrator workflows, and real-time app delivery with Apps on Demand to further simplify management.

Enhanced employee experience across desktops and apps is delivered through Horizon Cloud using VMware’s Blast protocol. End users can choose to access their virtual desktops and apps through 100s of supported endpoints and peripheral devices, enabling device choice and work from anywhere, no matter whether home, office, or frontline locations. Horizon Cloud also offers optimizations for popular unified communication tools such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom to deliver exceptional DaaS experiences to employees and supports graphic-intensive applications including those requiring GPU support.

“When Horizon Cloud Service on Microsoft Azure became available, it seemed like a natural progression for us. We wanted to keep the user experience and the management close to what we’ve enjoyed, making it an ideal solution,” says Haidar Abouzenni, systems engineer, Carhartt.

VMware also scored second highest in the 2023 Gartner Critical Capabilities for DaaS report across all four defined Use Cases – Remote Workers, High Security, High Performance, and Custom, Enterprise Architectures.
