Two legendary Orange County chefs, Sir Bruno Serato and Pascal Olhats, are teaming up to prepare a three-course Bastille Day dinner to celebrate the French Day of Independence on Sunday, July 14, at 7 p.m. The festivities will include a French accordionist who will lend a romantic atmosphere during dinner, followed by a rousing live performance by Can-Can dancers. Guests may choose between two appetizers — braised frog legs in a tomato and white wine sauce or Bourgogne escargot in garlic butter and herbs — and two entrees — Duck a L’Orange or Whitefish with lemon, butter and parsley. Topping off the dinner will be a classic Crepe Suzette. The cost is $95 per person, space is limited, and reservations can be made by calling 714-772-1381.

Olhats has been a fixture in the Orange County dining scene since setting up stakes in 1984. He subsequently helmed some of the region's most respected and finest restaurants and earned countless accolades along the way. The French-born master chef once owned and operated his own catering company as well as several OC restaurants, including Café Jardin Restaurant & Pascal’s Tea Garden Creperie on the lush grounds of Sherman Gardens & Library in Corona del Mar and Pascal’s Café in San Juan Capistrano. He was recently taken seriously ill after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive blood cancer. His close brush with death prompted Serato to plan this special dinner.

“I love and admire Pascal not only as an exceptional, world-class chef, but as a kind, generous and warm human being,” says Serato. “I am so delighted and honored to have this opportunity to work with him on the Bastille Day dinner.”

In addition to overseeing the critically acclaimed Anaheim White House Italian Steakhouse, Serato is known the world over for his humanitarian efforts in starting the nonprofit, Caterina’s Club (caterinasclub.org) , which feeds some 25,000 children each week, finds permanent housing for needy families and helps at-risk teens explore careers in the hospitality field. He is one of few Americans who can stake claim to being a CNN Hero, being honored on the steps of the U.S. Capitol by members of Congress, earning the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, receiving a set of rosary beads personally gifted by Pope Francis who also administered a papal blessing and being knighted not once, but twice….first by the Italian government and later by the House of Savoy. He accepts the honor of drawing attention to the very real challenges that families right here in the backyard of great wealth are facing.
