Freskos Greek Restaurant is “Paying It Forward”

Multi-awarding winning Freskos (230-823-9951) in Hamden, Connecticut, is holding a benefit for Ukraine victims affected by the current humanitarian crisis.

Hamden, United States - March 1, 2022 /PressCable/

FRESKOS Greek Restaurant located at 2323 Whitney Avenue in Hamden, CT is holding a fundraiser to benefit those affected by the current humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. On Thursday, March 10, 2022, Freskos will be offering FREE GYROS, all day, 11am-8pm (one per customer). Freskos will donate the cost of each gyro to Nova Ukraine, a charitable organization that meets the essential needs of mothers and children.FRESKOS is grateful to be able to demonstrate the Greek ideal of “filotimo” which, translated, means “love of honor” or more simply put, “paying it forward.”There is a large Greek community living in Ukraine (mostly in the southern and eastern regions of the nation). Ukraine was first settled by the Greeks as early as 500 B.C. The Ukrainian city of Odessa (among others) was founded by ancient Greek colonists. It is also the birthplace of Filiki Eteria, a secret organization founded in 1814 whose purpose was to overthrow the Ottoman rule of Greece and establish an independent Greek state. Freskos, founded in 2016, has raised money for the Greek fires on the island of Evia, the Wounded Warrior Project, & for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief. They also piloted a program called, “gyros for heroes” in the early days of the pandemic where sandwiches were provided to front-line workers.

“I feel it is important to give to those in need”, says Peter Vouras, owner of Freskos. “We need to remember that. Too many people turn a blind eye to charity and wait for the ‘other guy’ to do it. Everyone must do their part to help those who need it most.” He continues, ” the Greek ideal of ‘filotimo’ is important to me and always has been. Its literal translation is ‘love of honor’ but it goes deeper than that. I am just happy to be able to help.”
