UKM-GSB students join hands with the Malaysia Mental Health Association (“MMHA”) to promote healthy lifestyles

The Healthy Living Bazaar (H.L.B) project team from UKM-GSB organized a charity event to promote healthy lifestyles from 14th to 15th July at the KIZ Hall, which comprised two parts: an on-campus bazaar and an off-campus charity dinner for 100 people.

The “Healthy Living Bazaar” featured 11 stalls from different theme-related companies, each offering different experience programmes, including interactive mental health games, physiotherapy services, hand care, essential oil massage, healthy drinks, live squash instruction by squash players, and more. The brand “ITSU” also transported many massage and fitness equipment to the event site for participants to experience. Through the event, you can also discuss with professionals on various health-related topics, such as balanced diet, stress reduction methods, body shaping and so on. In addition, students could also receive exclusive gift packs by scanning the code and filling in the health questionnaire at the check-in counter.

H.L.B project team and Malaysian Mental Health Association

The event was supported by Malaysia Mental Health Association and UKM-GSB. We hope to work with the H.L.B project team to promote healthy lifestyles among the student body, provide a platform for students to understand and improve their physical and mental health, and advocate them to establish good health habits and truly understand the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition of health: Physical, Mental, Socially Adaptable and Morally Healthy.

They attributed the success of the event to the active participation and feedback from the students. Through the check-in statistics, about 423 people took part in the event. At the event, everyone expressed they had a good sense of participation and experience. Through the event, they gained a deeper understanding of a healthy lifestyle and learned a lot of practical knowledge and skills. They were also very grateful to H.L.B for organizing the event and felt that it provided them with a rare opportunity to learn and improve their physical and mental health under the guidance of professionals.

UKM-GSB Vice Dean Prof. Mara and H.L.B team

Prof. Mara, Vice Dean of UKM-GSB, who was also present at the event, said that a healthy lifestyle is very much worth paying attention to, especially during the student years. He believes that a healthy lifestyle is crucial for students’ physical and mental health, as well as their academic achievements. He emphasized it was a very successful event and hoped that students learned some practical tips for healthy living that they could apply to their daily lives.

The second part of the event was a charity dinner for 100 people, with the venue and sumptuous meal provided free of charge by the GRASIA Restaurant. The dinner featured sharing activities such as knowledge of essential oils, general knowledge of health and psychology, Muay Thai demonstration and song performances. In order to make the event more interesting and participatory, the H.L.B project team also arranged some interactive sessions. Students actively took part in the group games and prize competitions, and had a great time with laughter and good food. the H.L.B project team said that the online enrolment was overwhelming and exceeded expectations.

The charity dinner not only provided an opportunity for students to relax and unwind but also created a platform for them to interact and network. While enjoying the food, students made new friends, shared their experiences, and encouraged and supported each other.

The event received deep participation in associations and sponsors. The Malaysia Mental Health Association said that they will continue to take part in meaningful sharing activities organized by H.L.B when the opportunity arises to provide mental health-related services to the students for their holistic development and healthy growth. They also hope that through such public service activities, they can popularize the importance of a healthy lifestyle for the community at large and promote the healthy development of society as a whole. At the same time, companies, including CUTIECLE, ITSU, and GRASIA, have expressed that such healthy lifestyle promotion activities are in line with their corporate culture and health service philosophy.

The H.L.B project team said that the success of this event is not the goal. Data from the Malaysian Ministry of Health shows that about 70 percent of Malaysian adults are in a state of sub-health. It is hoped that by uniting public welfare organizations and social forces through this started activity, it will draw more people’s attention to health, promote the development of health awareness in the whole society, and contribute to the promotion of healthy lifestyles for all people in some way.
