Insurance leader encourages individuals and businesses to better understand risk management in everyday life.
MARIETTA, GA / ACCESS Newswire / October 29, 2025 / Insurance professional and Associate Broker Christopher Noonburg is raising awareness about the importance of financial literacy and risk education, encouraging individuals and small business owners to take a proactive role in understanding how insurance protects their financial stability.
"Insurance isn't about paperwork," Noonburg says. "It's about protecting people's futures. Everyone deserves to understand what they're buying and how it works."
A Growing Knowledge Gap
According to a 2024 Insurance Information Institute survey, over 60% of Americans say they don't fully understand what their insurance policies cover. Among small business owners, nearly 40% are underinsured, leaving them exposed to financial risk after unexpected events. Noonburg believes those numbers highlight a need for better education and open conversations between brokers and clients.
"Too often, people only learn about coverage when something goes wrong," he explains. "That's backwards. Education should come first - not after a crisis."
As an Associate Broker at Brown and Riding Insurance, Noonburg has seen firsthand how misunderstandings can lead to avoidable losses. His goal is to make complex insurance topics more accessible to everyday people. "Good brokers simplify risk," he says. "Our job is to make sure people walk away with clarity, not confusion."
Encouraging Informed Decisions
Noonburg emphasizes that consumers can take simple steps to become more informed. He recommends reviewing policies annually, asking questions about exclusions, and comparing deductibles before renewal. But his message goes beyond financial products - it's about building confidence in decision-making.
"The more you know, the less intimidating it feels," Noonburg says. "You don't need to become an expert, but you should always feel comfortable asking why."
He also points out that transparency benefits both clients and the industry. When people understand their coverage, they're more likely to make responsible choices and plan ahead.
A Call for Proactive Education
Noonburg's advocacy extends to community engagement. He volunteers with local organizations and believes that conversations about financial protection should start early - ideally in schools and community centers. "We teach young people how to save and spend," he notes. "But we rarely teach them how to protect. That's a missing piece of the financial puzzle."
The data supports his point: A 2023 FINRA Foundation study found that only 17% of high school students could correctly answer basic questions about risk diversification and insurance. Noonburg hopes to help change that through mentorship, workshops, and public awareness.
"If we want resilient communities, we need informed communities," he says. "That starts with education."
Balancing Business and Humanity
In a field often perceived as technical or impersonal, Noonburg stands out for his emphasis on human connection. He sees every client relationship as a partnership. "At the end of the day, insurance is about people," he says. "If someone walks away feeling confident in their choices, that's success."
He also stresses that advocacy isn't just about policy reform or regulation-it's about everyday action. "Everyone can take ownership of their financial safety," he adds. "Start by reading your policy. Ask questions. Share what you learn with someone else."
How Individuals Can Take Action
To support Noonburg's message, individuals and small businesses can:
Review their insurance coverage annually to ensure it aligns with current needs.
Ask their brokers or insurers for plain-language explanations of exclusions and deductibles.
Engage in community workshops on financial literacy and risk management.
Share educational resources with family and friends to expand awareness.
"Awareness leads to empowerment," Noonburg says. "And empowered people make better decisions - for themselves, their families, and their businesses."
