Creatrix Solutions has published a guide comparing red light saunas and red light therapy panels, explaining how the two technologies differ in light source, spectrum, heat output, session design and the specifications buyers should check.

-- Creatrix Solutions has released an educational guide examining the difference between red light saunas and red light therapy panels, two categories of wellness equipment that are often described with the same words despite working in distinctly different ways. The guide explains how each technology produces light, how much heat it generates, and the kind of session each is built to provide.

One source of confusion is the broad use of the term “red light” across products with different light sources. The guide explains that the presence of visible red or near infrared light does not, by itself, make two devices equivalent. A red light sauna using incandescent lamps generates light by heating a tungsten filament, which produces a broad, continuous spectrum beginning near 550 nanometers and running through visible red into near, mid and longer infrared wavelengths. A large share of that output is delivered as radiant heat, so the lamp serves two functions at once: it produces visible and near infrared light, and it heats the enclosure to sauna temperatures.

LED red light therapy panels operate differently. Their light-emitting diodes are selected to produce relatively narrow wavelength bands, commonly one in visible red and one in near infrared. Because LEDs convert far less of their output into radiant heat, a panel delivers a measured light exposure at the user position with very little warmth. The guide notes that panels grew out of photobiomodulation research, in which wavelength, irradiance and distance are tightly specified, and that most of that research used dedicated devices at stated doses rather than sauna lamps.

These differences shape how the equipment is used. A red light sauna session is built around progressive warming: the user sits inside an enclosure, typically 18 to 30 inches from the lamps in the Sauna Fix® system, while radiant energy and retained heat build over 15 to 40 minutes and sweating becomes part of the experience. An LED panel session places the user at a specified distance from the panel for a shorter, cooler exposure of a defined area. The guide describes the two as different tools rather than competing versions of one product, and notes that some people use both for their separate purposes.

The guide also encourages buyers to look past product names to measured output. For an LED panel, that means documented wavelengths and irradiance measured at a stated distance. For an incandescent sauna, it means the lamp spectrum, radiant intensity, the distance between the lamps and the body, bulb positioning and enclosure design, since cabin temperature alone reports only part of what the equipment delivers. “When people ask me whether they should buy a lamp or a panel, I usually answer with another question,” says Eileen Durfee, founder of Creatrix Solutions. “Do you want a light, or do you want a sauna? The guide is meant to help people work out which one actually matches their goals.”

The comparison is intended to give consumers a clearer technical framework for reading terminology and specifications before selecting equipment. The material is educational and is not medical advice.
