Beijing, China - August 15, 2026 - Proximal humeral fractures account for approximately 5% of all adult fractures, with two age peaks of incidence: around 30 years old and over 60 years old. Fractures in young patients are mostly caused by high-energy trauma and are often accompanied by visceral injuries or fractures at other sites. Patients aged over 60 years are predominantly female, accounting for about 70% of all patients with proximal humeral fractures, and their fractures usually occur on the basis of severe osteoporosis.

At present, proximal humeral fractures have become a hot topic of clinical research in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery. However, there is no definitive consensus on treatment strategies owing to the high prevalence of concurrent osteoporosis among patients. Clinicians need to fully recognize the advantages and limitations of each therapeutic modality and implement appropriate individualized treatment based on fracture classification, patient characteristics, comorbidities and functional recovery goals.

The PHILOS plate is a commonly used proximal humerus bone plate in clinical settings. It boasts advantages including high angular stability, minimal soft tissue injury, and permission for early functional exercise. It is especially suitable for middle-aged and elderly patients with relatively preserved bone quality.Humerus Plate
