Innovative user experience builds greater trust in news with personalized journeys through immersive fact cards, storytelling integrations, and a customizable media player
Straight Arrow News (SAN), the independent news publisher dedicated to unbiased, fact-based journalism, has relaunched its website and app with an enhanced reader experience that focuses on trust-building and addresses the needs of today’s modern news audience. The new experience aims to restore trust in news by helping people easily consume unbiased, fact-based information, as well as receive deep context around each story, with innovative fact-card integrations and a customizable, cross-platform media player.
"The news industry is fundamentally broken, plagued by bias and a loss of public trust. This new user experience has trust-building at its core as we deliver unbiased, fact-based reporting in a way that fits into modern readers' lives,” said Ken Shapiro, Chief Revenue Officer of Straight Arrow News. “The redesign of Straight Arrow News represents a complete reimagination of how complex stories should be told. These innovative features deliver clear, compelling, and tailored experiences to each reader—the way news should be.”
Straight Arrow News is transforming the way people consume digital news with four innovative new experiences, highlighted in this video and below:
- The Today Page provides immediate value to readers through "Get the Latest", "Get Caught Up" and "Get the Facts" features that showcase dynamic video content, breakthrough fact cards, and a highlight of its “Media Miss” feature that exposes coverage gaps across the political spectrum.
- The Story Page design now provides an all-encompassing news experience with summary bullets, video, audio, and full text options, allowing readers to engage in their preferred format at their preferred depth. "Fact Cards" integrated within stories highlight key objective information, while the "Get the Big Picture" section provides context through Common Ground analysis (where the left and right agree), Diverging Views analysis (where the left and right disagree), and underreported aspects of a given story.
- The Topic Page now provides deep dives into complex issues, showcasing multiple perspectives and highlighting media coverage gaps.
- The Media Player now enables personalized listening across devices, letting users add content to their queue and switch between video, audio, and text formats with ease.
SAN has developed a proprietary approach to news coverage that puts facts at the center and eliminates bias from reporting. SAN has been awarded a perfect 100/100 score from NewsGuard, the independent provider of transparent tools to counter misinformation, and a Certified Balanced status by AllSides, a leading media bias rating service.
Trust in the media is at an all-time low, with more people (36%) saying they have no trust in the media than those (31%) who say they have fair or a great deal of trust in the media.1 Moreover, 23% of Americans say they have shared “fake news,” either knowingly or unknowingly.2
“Today’s readers want more than headlines. They are looking for clarity, credibility, and a news experience that meets them where they are while taking the steps to rebuild trust that's degraded over the last several years,” said Derek Mead, Chief Content Officer at Straight Arrow News. “Our team is delivering reporting that’s both deeply factual and accessible—two factors we’ve seen a great appetite for. This redesign is pivotal to the direction journalism needs to take and the leadership role Straight Arrow News is taking on as we help guide the news industry into a brighter future.”
