About the Author:

Dr. Dwain D Howard aka “Churchboy Dee Dee” was born and raised in Baltimore City, MD. At the age of thirteen, he became a victim of gun violence. At the age of sixteen, he was arrested for transporting narcotics, and given a juvenile life sentence. In 1998, he earned a Master’s degree in Human Services from Lincoln University. In 2021, he earned a Doctorate degree in Public Health, from Capella University. Dr.Howard is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Supervisor in the State of Maryland. He has been a psychotherapist since 2007. Dr. Howard is the founder of Heaven Helpers, a mental health and wellness program dedicated to providing counseling and support to individuals and families residing in lower socioeconomic communities in Baltimore City, Maryland, and the surrounding counties. Dr. Howard has dedicated his life to assisting youth and young adults to avoid the systemic challenges and disparities facing them in their daily lives and communities. He has and is conducting evidence-based research to address epidemics including, but not limited to, high rates of gun violence among youth residing in lower socioeconomic communities, high rates of recidivism among African American males, and emerging and exacerbated mental health challenges of youth following the onset of the pandemic.
