With Elinka’s World, Ellen Hajek invites readers—toddlers through age 12—to step into a realm of innocent wonder, where everyday moments brim with mystery and meaning. Through graceful verses and gentle observation, the book reflects how a child perceives people, nature, and life’s small miracles.
In Elinka’s World, the narrator watches her parents, grandmothers, and playmates with wide-eyed curiosity. She notices ants, frogs, even a funeral, and wonders what unseen patterns govern their lives. Likewise, she marvels at how Grandma “plays the piano” with her ear and imagines ant families in the dark. These poetic vignettes remind readers that while we all share childhood experiences, each person sees them in a unique light.
Hajek, a lifelong educator and writer, has long believed that learning should be joyful. Her writing journey began at age twelve, contributing articles to Capper’s Weekly. Over time, she worked for newspapers like The Weekly Times in Iowa and The Greeley Tribune in Colorado, and authored or contributed to educational materials such as Basic Skills Review, Humpties: Parts of Speech with “Eggceptional” Personalities, and Quick Coach Guide to Service Learning. She also founded Hajek House, her own publishing venture.
Now retired, Hajek devotes her time to writing for younger audiences and exploring life’s quiet wonders. Elinka’s World is her latest offering—delicate, reflective, and rooted in a love for childhood’s mystery.
The book’s gentle tone, lyrical structure, and familiar imagery make it a compelling read not only for children but for adults who wish to revisit the purity and curiosity of youth. It is ideally suited for parents who read aloud, classrooms exploring poetry, or anyone seeking a moment of quiet reflection in a hectic world.
Elinka’s World is published by Authors’ Tranquility Press and is now available in Amazon and Barnes&Noble!
