The Fraser Mansion in Washington, DC, served as the venue for a transformative celebration commemorating Black History Month. Organized by the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office in collaboration with esteemed partners including the DC Black History Celebration Committee, the African American Civil War Museum, Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI), and Diplomatic Watch.

The event drew a diverse array of distinguished guests, including Ethiopian royalty, congressional aides, media representatives, business leaders, human rights consultants, and activists. Guiding the evening's program was Beth Akiyama, Executive Director of the Church of Scientology's National Affairs Office, who led participants on an enlightening journey into the heart of Black history.

The evening commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of Lift Every Voice, also known as the Black national anthem, performed by members of the US Army in a video, which set a powerful tone for the event. Attendees were then treated to a series of poignant videos created by Youth for Human Rights International, highlighting the significance of fundamental rights, enshrined in Articles 1 and 30 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Ms. Akiyama emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Church of Scientology and Youth for Human Rights International, highlighting their shared commitment to advocacy and raising awareness.

Esteemed panelists, including Dr. Frank Smith, Captain Edward W. Gantt, and Drexil Smothers, captivated the audience with their profound insights into Black history and the contributions of Black Americans in the military.

Dr. Smith delivered a passionate speech, shedding light on the often-overlooked narratives of Black soldiers in the Civil War and urging the audience to reclaim and preserve these vital stories. Captain Gantt shared enlightening perspectives gleaned from his experience as a Civil War reenactor, challenging prevailing narratives about America's past. Retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Smothers gave a compelling address, stressing the importance of diversity within the military and the enduring values instilled in service members.

A special address by Miss Africa USA, Queen Snit Tewoldemedhin, added a touch of inspiration to the evening, serving as a beacon of empowerment within the African diaspora community.

Participants were encouraged to explore educational materials from Youth for Human Rights International, reflecting the event's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

The veterans present at the event were also recognized for their service and contribution to the nation's history.

An interactive session provided guests with the opportunity to engage directly with panelists, fostering dialogue and exchange on historical inquiries and contemporary challenges faced by the Black community. Ms. Akiyama expressed her gratitude to the speakers and attendees saying “the celebration at the Fraser Mansion served as a reminder of the resilience, courage, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history, inspiring continued advocacy and action in the pursuit of equality and justice.”

As the evening drew to a close, participants embraced networking opportunities, inspired by the spirit of unity and purpose that permeated the gathering.
