Voice Actors Behind Kung Fu Panda 4 Characters: Voiceover Artist Report Released

Voices - a website dedicated to talent acquisition and job opportunities for voiceover actors - has released a new report about the voices behind the hugely successful Kung Fu Panda 4 film.

The film, which was released in early March 2024, features some of the most popular voice actors in the industry. From Jack Black to Viola Davis, the new report highlights the breadth of talent that the film was able to attract. Readers are also introduced to some of the lesser-known names in the cast, all of whom add energy, drama, and strong comic timing to one of Hollywood's enduring animation franchises.

The piece discusses Jack Black's return as the iconic Po. As one of Hollywood's most reliable and versatile comic talents, securing Black's casting in the fourth movie was always going to be central to its success. Blog author Keaton Robbins says, “Black’s voice perfectly captures the endearing goofiness and unwavering determination that make Po such a lovable character.”

Kung Fu Panda 4 generated $188 million in the US alone with a further $336 million coming from the global market. The cast played a crucial role in ensuring the film outstripped the success of its predecessor.

A new addition to the cast this time, the report explains, was Oscar, Tony, EGOT, Grammy, and Emmy-award-winning actress Viola Davis. Cast as the Chameleon - a shapeshifting sorceress who is trying to seize possession of the staff of wisdom, Davis turned a typically powerful performance in her third major voiceover role after playing Helen Hanshaw in Sofia the First in 2013 and Amanda Waller in 2024's Creature Commandos.

Another revered household name appeared in the film in the form of Bryan Cranston - perhaps best known for his portrayal of Walter White in the HBO series Breaking Bad. Cranston plays Po's biological father Li, capturing the complexities of the father-son relationship with nuance and humor throughout.

The blog goes on to note the impressive supporting cast including Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman and returning star James Hong as Po's adoptive father. There was also speculation that the Furious Five characters were voiced by Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, and David Cross. The producers kept the public in suspense by not revealing the voices behind the quintet.

The report joins a host of other informative and engaging content and resources for voice actors on the Voices website. Aspiring actors can sign up to make themselves available for voiceover opportunities.
