Anaheim White House and Italian Steakhouse will celebrate its 37th anniversary on Wednesday, August 21 with a celebration during which a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, which is considered the Italian “Champagne” will be presented to each table. Guests must make reservations at (714) 772-1381 to secure a table as space is limited. Owner Sir Bruno Serato, who has presided over the venerable upscale restaurant since its infancy, will be in attendance to welcome guests and share stories and anecdotes that have taken place there.
“As proprietor, I’ve enjoyed a long and storied past here that includes having met US presidents, various royalty, celebs like Madonna and David Beckham and, in fact, it’s where Gwen Stefani celebrated her marriage proposal,” he recalls. “There have been challenging times as well especially during downturns in the economy when I had to mortgage my house to keep the business going. The worst moment was when the restaurant burned to the ground and nothing was spared save for the Bible that was personally given to me by Pope Francis. But under every dark cloud there’s a silver lining and I was able to rebuild it even better than it was before.”
Situated in a historic national landmark mansion dating to 1909, the restaurant offers a broad menu of northern Italian fare including prime-grade steaks and fresh seafood, wide number of pasta dishes, an extensive wine list, unparalleled service and an elegant setting to create an extraordinary dining experience. With its close proximity to Disneyland, the dining establishment has become a favorite destination for tourists, locals and dignitaries visiting the park. Among the luminaries from the worlds of entertainment, sports and politics are Sidney Portier, Andrea Bocelli, Wolfgang Puck, Derek Jeter, Oscar de la Hoya, President Jimmy Carter, President George W. Bush and the Crown Prince of Belgium.
In addition to overseeing his restaurant, Serato is known the world over for his humanitarian efforts in starting the nonprofit, Caterina’s Club, which feeds some 25,000 children each week, finds permanent housing for needy families and helps at-risk teens explore careers in the hospitality field. He is one of few Americans who can stake claim to being a CNN Hero, being honored on the steps of the U.S. Capitol by members of Congress, earning the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, receiving a set of rosary beads personally gifted by Pope Francis who also administered a papal blessing and being knighted not once, but twice….first by the Italian government and later by the House of Savoy. He accepts the honors to draw attention to the very real challenges that families right here in the backyard of great wealth are facing.
