Nude Body Art Performance, Celebrates the “The Artist’s Voice” on Sunday, July 23rd at Union Square’s North Plaza

NYC artist and free speech activist Andy Golub announced today that his 10th annual NYC Bodypainting Day will also be his last.
On Sunday, July 23rd, over 50 everyday people of all shapes, sizes, genders, ethnicities, and ages ranging from 20s to 80s will get fully nude and be body painted in the public streets of New York City. This year’s theme is “The Artist’s Voice,” encouraging each participating artist to share their unique vision with the world. Golub, the event organizer, explains, “The perspective of the artist, whether it’s a painter, musician, dancer, or poet, is an essential voice if we’re ever going to bring peace to this world.”
Over the years, NYC Bodypainting Day has taken place in Columbus Circle, Washington Square, Times Square, and Union Square Park.
“The message is simply that we’re all the same. But Bodypainting Day is not just an idea, it’s an experience. To see people who are so different come together so seamlessly is magical,” Golub adds.
“I’ve heard countless times how this event has had a profound impact on people’s lives.”
So why would Golub retire the event? “After 10 years, it’s time to find new ways to bring people together, empower them, and be open to other points of view,” Golub shares.
Following four hours of live body painting, participants will march through the public streets of Greenwich Village, take part in a photo shoot at Washington Square Park, ride a double-decker bus over the Manhattan Bridge, and conclude the day with a blow-out after-party in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
As we bid farewell to the epic NYC Bodypainting Day, we look forward to new and exciting events to come. Human Connection Arts is delighted to join forces with Coney Island USA and Buck Wolf, editor of BuzzFeed, for the first Body Festival, which will take place next spring. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting event.
