Austin, Texas Dec 16, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - The 21st Century has been called the "the microbial century." Modern microbiology has changed our whole understanding of the universe of life. In The Jesus Microbiome - An Instagram from the First Century, Professor Stephen J. Mattingly, who headed a chapter of the American Society of Microbiology, applies these breakthroughs to the controversial Shroud of Turin. The result is a paradigm shift and Mattingly is forced to conclude that the Shroud truly is the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. In fact, he says, the image on the Shroud is nothing less than the first photograph in human history - it was literally created from the flesh and blood of Christ and the underlying processes that led to this kind of image creation can be (and has been) replicated today.

In a review, Ian Wilson, the author of numerous best-selling works on the Shroud of Turin, writes that

"The Jesus Microbiome is a fascinating and important contribution to Shroud studies, compellingly written and readily intelligible to the non-scientist."

The foreword to the book is from world-renowned anti-aging authority Nicholas V. Perricone, MD, himself the author of five New York Times bestsellers. In his foreword, Perricone observes that The Jesus Microbiome shows "us - at a natural level - how the image on the Shroud was formed and why it remains intact to this day."

The book also addresses the 1988 carbon dating study of the Shroud and its claim that the Shroud was a medieval creation.  Using demonstrable and replicable procedures available only today, Mattingly shows that this study did not de-contaminate the Shroud at a microbial level and hence its dating conclusions were invalid. Significantly, Harry Gove, co-inventor of the radiocarbon dating technology used in the 1988 study, had ongoing discussions with Mattingly. Subsequently, Gove said in a BBC interview that microbial contamination "of the linen fibrils could not have been removed even by the most stringent pretreatment cleaning process and would, definitely, skew the real age of the linen."

The Jesus Microbiome is written for skeptics and scientifically inclined readers. It is an evidence-based exploration of the insight that the Shroud of Turin is indeed the "fifth Gospel" - a visual, real-time manifestation of the most important events recorded in the Gospel narratives: the world's ONLY palpable connection to the scourging, crucifixion, piercing and death of Jesus.
