The rededication and improvements were in honor of the 75th anniversary of the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.
ELIZABETH, NJ, December 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- City officials including the Honorable J. Christian Bollwage, Mayor of Elizabeth, NJ, and councilmembers, community leaders, local business owners and neighbors gathered at the L. Ron Hubbard Park located on the corner of North Broad Street and Salem Avenue for a celebration to rededicate the park in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.
The City of Elizabeth has shaped America's story for more than 350 years and is known as a city of firsts. Adding to that legacy, it was here that the global Dianetics movement began when Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health began its unprecedented run of 28 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, going to re-print just weeks after the book's release on May 9th 1950. Mr. Hubbard opened the first Dianetics Foundation in his home on Aberdeen Road and crowds from across America began arriving without invitation, eager to meet and learn from the author of what was rapidly becoming one of the most popular book ever written on the human mind. Today, the book remains the all-time bestselling book on the human mind and has sold over 20 million copies and is available in over 50 languages in 206 nations.
Through collaborative efforts of the L. Ron Hubbard Foundation, City departments and community organizations the park saw significant improvements. The L. Ron Hubbard Foundation sponsored the replacement of the worn park front, the installation of new pavers and the restoration of the sixteen-foot-tall clock and plaque that have stood as a city landmark for the past 25 years. Groundwork Elizabeth supported the project by planting new rosebushes and azaleas, sure to bring fresh color and vibrancy in the spring. The City of Elizabeth contributed to the beautification effort by planting new trees, providing long-term environmental and community benefits.
During the event, the Honorable J. Christian Bollwage, Mayor of Elizabeth, NJ, commemorated the occasion as a featured speaker, commending the work done and the value of community engagement.
The program also featured President and CEO of the Greater Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Jennifer Costa. She noted, "This park and the historic clock behind us, serves as more than just a landmark. They truly have become a global destination meeting point. … Today is not just a moment we honor the past but it's about looking forward to the future. So, as we dedicate this park, may this place continue to inspire people – our residents and travelers alike – to pause, to reflect, and to choose actions that uplift our community higher."
Rev. Massimo Parrino of the L. Ron Hubbard Foundation stated, "What you see today, is just a start of a project to renew the park once more. Working together with the City of Elizabeth, great organizations such as Groundwork Elizabeth, many wonderful friends and neighbors – we not only commemorate the history of this park, but celebrate its renovation and what it represents: the power of community, the spirit of service, and the enduring belief that we can make the world around us better through care, commitment, and cooperation."
The event concluded with an official ribbon cutting led by Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Ms. Jennifer Costa along with members of the Elizabeth City Council and the L. Ron Hubbard foundation.
Further improvements of the park are still planned, including additional plantings and walking paths.
The L. Ron Hubbard Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit organization that preserves and presents the accurate historical record of L. Ron Hubbard's research into the human mind and spirit, while encouraging the use of his discoveries to address social and scientific challenges and uplift cultures of all backgrounds.
