Texas schools using STEMscopes Math in fourth grade showed significant gains on the 2024 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) in math. A new research study found that the STEMscopes Texas Math curriculum had positive effects on the percentage of students passing STAAR benchmarks and on average scale scores.

During the 2023-2024 school year, over 20% of Texas public elementary schools used STEMscopes Math in fourth grade classrooms. The study compared STAAR outcomes in these schools to those of schools using other math programs.

The study findings revealed that the STEMscopes Math schools had a higher percentage of students meeting STAAR fourth grade benchmarks in the Approaches, Meets, and Masters Grade Level categories and a lower percentage in the Did Not Meet Grade Level category.

In addition, STAAR scale scores in STEMscopes Math schools were 6.49 points higher than non-STEMscopes schools. STEMscopes schools gained 103 points between third and fourth grade, while non-STEMscopes schools gained 96 points. All student subgroups in STEMscopes schools had positive increases above comparison groups’ average scale scores in non-STEMscopes schools.

The study also found that schools with longer use of STEMscopes Math had greater gains. For every additional year of use, schools’ average scale scores increased 2.88 points, and the percentage of students meeting grade-level expectations went up 0.65 percentage points. Schools where students had STEMscopes Math in second, third, and fourth grade had average scale scores 8.64 points higher and a 1.95 percentage point increase in students meeting grade-level expectations compared to non-STEMscopes schools.

STEMscopes Math provides a one-stop solution to meet the diverse needs of teachers and students. The entire curriculum is online, and all student resources are available in English and Spanish. Supplemental print materials and hands-on kits enhance teaching and learning, providing a comprehensive math solution.
