Markel Corporation Names New Vice President of Manufacturing Operations to Drive Lean Six Sigma Change

Markel Corporation, the leading industrial technology manufacturing company making fluoropolymer-based products, today announced that Rick Kreppel has joined the team as Vice President of Manufacturing Operations. A strategic leader in engineering and operations management, Kreppel is an expert in Lean Six Sigma manufacturing, based on the Toyota Production System, and has earned the Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

Kreppel comes to Markel as an experienced operational leader across many industries, including medical device, microelectronics and telecommunications. Prior to joining Markel, Kreppel led a team of 300 as Vice President of Operations, inclusive of in-house manufacturing, at Globus Medical. In this role, he established new methodologies for continuous improvement and new product process development, and was responsible for growing revenues and EBITDA. Before that, he led operations and engineering teams at Handy & Harman Corporation, UTI Corporation, Synthes and the General Electric Company, where he received his certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt.

“Working across different industries, I’ve learned that while the end-product may be different, the process to deliver that product is often quite similar,” said Kreppel. “I’ve spent my career perfecting that operational process, centered around high performance teams. I believe you need to connect the right people with the right process to create the optimal environment for success, which I define as every member of the team taking responsibility and ownership of product quality, efficiency and successful delivery.”

Headquartered in Pennsylvania, the company is a subsidiary of Alliance Holdings and is an employee-owned business. Markel is an industrial technology manufacturing company making PTFE and other fluoropolymer-based products for global customers in the automotive, heavy transportation, aerospace, electronics, telecommunications, wastewater separation and filtration industries. A pioneer in the use of high-performance fluoropolymer solutions, Markel has combined proprietary manufacturing processes and patented technology to become a solution-oriented partner to a global customer base.

“We are in the midst of a cultural shift here at Markel, which is founded upon our intimate understanding of market needs, combined with a Lean Six Sigma-based approach to operations and delivery,” said Jon Kirchner, President and Chief Executive Officer at Markel Corporation. “One of the things that impresses me the most about Rick is his passion for these foundational elements. His commitment to eliminating waste and continuous improvement in manufacturing is critical to first, achieving these aims, and next, to bolstering our customer relationships and our business.”
