WE ACTUALLY HEARD DISCUSSION ABOUT THOSE PROTESTS DURING THIS MORNING'S MEETING. THAT INCLUDES MOMENTS THIS WEEKEND WHEN PROTESTERS CAME OUT HERE, PUT RED HANDPRINTS ALL OVER THE STEPS IN THE SIDE OF THE SOUTH BUILDING HERE. >> STILL TALKING TO FINANCE CHAIR DAVID BULLOCH. HE TELLS US THIS IS ACTUALLY A DISCUSSION THAT'S BEEN GOING BACK MONTHS. IT'S FINALLY COME TO A HEAD. IN A SPECIAL CALLED MEETING MONDAY MORNING, UNC CHAPEL HILL'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES TOOK A SURPRISE STAMP. >> THE BOARD STRIPPING 2.3 MILLION DOLLARS IN DEI FUNDING. >> THE I HAVE STATED BEFORE ALL STATE AGAIN, I THINK THAT IS DIVISIVE. THE MONEY WILL BE USED INSTEAD FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. IT'S NOT CLEAR WHERE EXACTLY THOSE FUNDS WILL GO. BUT DURING THE MEETING BOARD MEMBER MARTY KOTIS SAID IN PARTICULAR, PEOPLE LEAVES UNC AS POLICE FORCES UNDER FUNDED. THEY DO NOT HAVE ALL THE TOOLS THEY NEED RIGHT NOW TO KEEP THIS FROM A LARGER THREAT.
