SpecialtyCare Adds Roth and Maddux to Board of Directors

SpecialtyCare today announced the appointment of health care leaders, Gregory S. Roth and Franklin W. Maddux, MD, FACP, to its board of directors, effective immediately.

“Individually, Greg Roth and Frank Maddux are valuable additions to our board, but by joining us at the same time, we will get an immediate infusion of uncommonly deep and broad clinical, financial, and operational experience at the board level,” said SpecialtyCare CEO Melvin F. Hall, PhD.

Mr. Roth was CEO of TeamHealth Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: TMH) from May 2008 until his retirement in September 2014. He joined the organization as president and COO in November 2004. Under his leadership, TeamHealth transformed from a privately held company with $1.0 billion in annual revenues and a focus on emergency services to a publicly traded company with $2.7 billion in annual revenues and multiple clinical service lines. His prior experience includes 20 years with the Ambulatory Surgery Division of HCA Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HCA), where he served as CFO, senior vice president of operations, and president. Mr. Roth earned a bachelor’s degree in allied health sciences from Ohio State University and a master’s degree in hospital and health administration from Xavier University.

“TeamHealth has a business model similar to ours, so Greg knows the landscape,” said Dr. Hall. “His leadership and understanding of our markets will certainly help us be a better company. I eagerly anticipate his guidance and active participation as a board member.”

Dr. Maddux co-founded SpecialtyCare in 2006. Currently, he is the chief medical officer and executive vice president for clinical and scientific affairs at Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA). He joined FMCNA in 2009 when it acquired Health IT Services Group (now Acumen Physician Solutions), the innovative electronic medical record software company that Dr. Maddux founded in 2007. He also serves as clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina School Of Medicine. Dr. Maddux received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an MD degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and nephrology fellowship.

“As a physician and an entrepreneur, Frank brings a unique perspective. He understands the power of innovative technology and how it can be used to improve workflows, decision making, and patient care,” said Dr. Hall. “Frank is a keen observer and I have leaned heavily on his insights in the past. I’m thrilled that he now will be joining us as an official member of our board.”
