A WRAL Weather Alert Day was issued Tuesday due to a risk for flooding as scattered storms continue to drop rain in the area.

<p>Good afternoon. I'm meteorologist Amy. Well, with here on the WRL severe weather center, we have a weather alert day in place. We had some heavy rain this morning that led to some flooding across parts of Durham County and Wake County. And now we have a medium risk for flooding in the northern half of the viewing area. So everywhere that you see that's shaded in yellow, a level two or medium risk for flash flooding. I think the heaviest rain is going to come late tonight and overnight tonight and the focus will likely be in the north half of our viewing area. Everyone shaded and green under a low end risk for flooding. We will have some additional rain and any heavy rain that we get could lead to more flooding. Here's a look at the future cast for the remainder of the day today at 5 p.m. So for the evening commute, it's really hit and miss showers and storms, it won't be widespread for the evening commute, but there's going to be some isolated showers or storms during the evening commute. The heavier stuff will happen after the sun. Here's a look at 9 p.m. and notice how most of this is going to be in the northern half of the viewing area. Here's 10 p.m. tonight from around Durham Chapel Hill and points to the north. That's where we'll have the heaviest rain over toward Roxboro midnight tonight. Same area we could have some very heavy rain and storms. Don't be surprised if you hear some thunder while you're sleeping tonight. Here's 1 a.m. same thing. The northern county is getting the brunt of the rain overnight tonight and into the early part of Wednesday morning. Here's a look at the evening planner. We'll have hit and miss storms for the evening commute and then we'll start to see the activity pick up late tonight anywhere from around a 40 to 50% chance in the triangle, but higher rain chances for our northern counties. So it's a very active weather pattern. We have, we'll have storms on and off today and overnight tonight storms will be possible with some heavy rain. The first part of Wednesday, mainly during the morning, mainly in northern counties and we'll get a little bit of a break late Wednesday. Continue into Thursday. Thursday night into Friday. Rain is likely we'll have some strong gusty winds. That's when we'll start to feel the impacts of Helene, what's left of Helene, the heaviest rain will be over western North Carolina, but it still looks like we're going to get anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. Maybe even a little bit higher than that across central North Carolina. So this is going to have some big impacts for Thursday night into Friday across our area. We're considering issuing a weather alert day. I think we probably will. We also have so many outdoor things. This weekend, we have the Benson mule days that will be impacted. We have the bluegrass festival that will be impacted, especially for Friday. Saturday. We start to see the activity wind down Sunday looks dry but then we're back to some storm chances by Monday.</p>
