LOS ANGELES - July 26, 2018 - PRLog -- X Roads TV, announced production on the their first docu-series, "City on Fire: Capturing Perspective." The series explores the controversial true stories that have ripped through and destroyed entire cities while spotlighting communities that were the hardest hit by social devastation and/or infrastructure collapse.
The network and series producers are both excited and humbled to announce the first episode and anticipate progressive dialogue while exploring the tragic death of 15 year old Latasha Harlins who was shot and killed in Los Angeles. Harlins' death forever changed the social landscape in the city of Los Angeles and was one of the incendiary moments which set the stage for the Los Angeles Riots.
The pilot episode "South Central Under Fire: The Spark of Latasha Harlins" will be captured from the perspective of the very people who lived it. The "City on Fire" pilot episode will highlight the conditions and incidents which were the catalysts of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. The episode will also explore the current conditions in Los Angeles and examine the variance 25 years later.
"The entire X Roads TV team is excited to announce the production start on 'City on Fire: Capturing Perspective,'" says X Roads TV President Mr. Marvin Williams. "We are honored, and equally humbled to begin production on the pilot episode which will encompass the heart-breaking story of Latasha Harlin. We are also very appreciative to have gained the support of Ms. Harlins' family while we explore the tragic moments that lead up to that particular infamous moment in time. I grew up in LA, all over LA, so this project hits home."
The senseless death of Latasha Harlins exacerbated existing tensions between African-American residents, and Asian-American merchants in South Central Los Angeles. Hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur took particular note of Harlins' death and in 1993 released a song entitled "Keep Ya Head Up" which he dedicated to the memory of Latasha Harlins.
"Keep Ya Head Up" was not the only song Shakur dedicated to Latasha Harlins. In the "Something 2 Die 4 (Interlude)" Shakur mentions "Latasha Harlins, remember that name... 'Cause a bottle of juice is not something to die for". In "Hellrazor" Shakur mentioned "Dear Lord if ya hear me, tell me why/Little girl like Latasha, had to die" showing the impact Latasha Harlins not only had on legendary entertainer Tupac Shakur, but on the world as a whole.
"Producing 'City on Fire' as one of our first projects, and sharing Latasha Harlins' story with the world was of the utmost importance to me," said X ROADS TV CEO Sharifah Hardie. "Even though I am a CEO and my life has expanded geographically, I grew up off of Vermont and Manchester in the heart of South Central Los Angeles. I remember those times. I remember how it felt to see the city you love on fire. This is not just a story to me. This was my childhood. This was a way of life in Los Angeles at that time."
