A WRAL Weather Alert Day has been issued as scattered storms move into the area Tuesday morning. A flash flood warning is in effect for Durham County until 11:15 a.m., and Wake County is under a flood advisory until 11 a.m.

I meteorologist Chris Michaels on this Tuesday morning as we continue to track potential tropical cyclone nine, this is going to thread the needle between Cuba and Mexico and that's going to allow the storm to strengthen very quickly here over the next few days, landfall right along Florida's Gulf coast into the big bend that is looking likely as we head into Thursday, but you see that kind of jog farther to the west. Keep in mind, however, that impact stretch farther and eastward from the center of a storm, looking at some very high rain totals in the mountains of North Carolina, anywhere from about 5 to 7 inches that can do some damage, especially with flooding this far close to home. Most rain totals about 1 to 3 inches more to the west and less to the east. We'll keep an eye on any sort of trends and wobbles, let you know if that changes. There's also going to be the potential Friday for some wind gust of 30 to perhaps as strong as 45 MPH, especially south of I 40. The tornado threat is to be determined. It's something that we'll have to keep an eye on any time. We have a tropical system on land. Now, as far as your Tuesday, a low risk of flooding north of the Triangle as we track a minor system moving through, it's going to keep temperatures pretty low. We'll be in the seventies in the triangle. Meanwhile, Fayetteville at 83 where you see fewer storms futurecast showing any kind of storms this afternoon, they'll be pretty sporadic. Most of these are going to be geared near into the north of the Triangle. It's already been a pretty wet morning commute so far. And as we head into the overnight, the higher rain totals are going to be closer to the Virginia State line. This then starts to lift farther to the north. We see some breaks of sun and very isolated showers heading into the day on Wednesday. Then by Thursday we mostly see a break in the action, but you see some of the rain creeping in from this tropical system that happens Thursday night, the worst of the weather is off and on Friday, heavy rain, strong wind gusts by Saturday looks like most of the rain from this tropical system will start to drift farther to the north and out of the area.
