California American Water Appoints Spencer Vartanian as Director of Operations for Monterey

California American Water today announced the appointment of Spencer Vartanian as Director of Operations for its Central Coast Division. In this role, Vartanian will oversee all aspects of the company's operations in the Monterey Peninsula area, helping ensure the delivery of high-quality, sustainable water solutions to the community.

"We are thrilled to welcome Spencer to our team," said Garry Hofer, Vice President of Operations at California American Water. "He brings a wealth of experience in water system operations management, safety, hydrogeology studies, and environmental stewardship – all areas critical to our success in Monterey."

Vartanian joins California American Water with over a decade of experience in the environmental and water management sectors. Most recently, he served as the Senior Chemistry and Environmental Manager at Vistra Energy, where he oversaw a broad range of water programs, including Non-Transient Non-Community Water Systems, Environmental Laboratories, and permitting for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program, which regulates the discharge of pollutants from point sources into waterways. Vartanian is also well-versed in complex regulations and has a proven track record of ensuring compliance with state and federal agencies.

"I am excited to join California American Water and contribute to its mission of delivering sustainable water solutions to the Monterey Peninsula,” said Vartanian. "I look forward to working with the talented team in Monterey to help ensure the continued success of our operations and commitment to the community, particularly the implementation of the Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project."

Prior to Vistra Energy, Vartanian held positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Gilton Solid Waste Management. His experience and expertise span across various industries, from energy generation to waste management, underscoring his commitment to environmental protection and efficient operations.

Vartanian is an advocate for the Central Coast community and served on the Board of the Central Coast Long-term Environmental Assessment Network (CCLEAN) for four years. His dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility aligns with the values of California American Water and parent company American Water.
