Heat Stroke Prevention In Dogs: Warning Signs, Cooling Techniques Guide Released

Pet owners can now access the latest safety guidelines on spotting, preventing and treating heat stroke in dogs. The new advice has been made available on DogInsider.com, an online forum for dog health issues.

The new heat stroke advice from canine health experts outlines the signs of the condition in dogs and offers pet owners tips on keeping dogs cool during hot weather.

Further details are available at https://doginsider.com/how-to-prevent-heat-stroke-in-dogs

DogInsider.com’s decision to publish the guidance on preventing heat stroke comes in response to figures released by animal rights organization, PETA, which showed that more than twice as many dogs and cats reportedly died from heat-related causes in 2023 than in any other year on record.

“Many people don’t realize just how serious heat stroke can be for their dogs,” said a spokesperson for DogInsider.com. “Heat stroke can escalate quickly, and serious cases often result in long-term organ damage. The mortality rate in dogs affected by heat stroke is shockingly high, which is why we want to give pet owners the information they need to prevent heat stroke from ever occurring.”

Early recognition of the condition, says DogInsider.com, can be the difference between death and recovery in dogs. Pet owners are advised to look out for indicators that their dog is overheating, including heavy panting, lethargy, and excessive drooling.

The guidance also outlines ways to keep dogs safe in hot weather, by providing shade and access to plenty of fresh drinking water. It reiterates the highly publicized warnings of not leaving dogs unattended in vehicles and stresses the importance of monitoring the temperature of a pet’s environment. If it is too hot to be comfortable for humans, the advice states, then it is definitely too hot for an animal with a fur coat.

If pet owners notice that their dog is becoming overheated, DogInsider’s guidance suggests that they apply cooling techniques - such as wetting the fur with cool water, applying wet towels and encouraging their pet to drink water with ice cubes - before seeking medical advice from their veterinarian.
