The Future of Work and Inclusion: A New Report from IEDC Economic Development Research Partners (EDRP)

By: PRLog

WASHINGTON - Aug. 11, 2021 - PRLog -- The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) today launched "The Future of Work and Inclusion," a report designed to help economic development organizations ensure that workers of color are prepared for the good jobs of the future.

Available for download at www.iedconline.org/edrp-publications, this report begins with a closer look at trends in employment and automation and their impacts on communities of color. Five case studies explore strategies in which EDOs are preparing workers of color for or connecting them to good jobs. The case studies illustrate strategies that are driven by regional demand; collaborative; offer worker training, education, and networking; and support EDOs' business relationships.

From the case studies, four "guideposts" are drawn that can help EDOs ensure everyone can engage in the future of work:

  • Seek opportunities to address the needs of workers of color
  • Prioritize regional demand, with an eye on the future
  • Foster greater engagement between education/training providers and businesses
  • Promote for regional enterprises the value of investing in a diverse workforce

Inclusive workforce strategies will be essential to economic prosperity based on demographic changes alone, in addition to the many benefits a diverse workforce brings. Communities that address the opportunities and challenges of Black and brown workers will position themselves for success for both their residents and their businesses.
