Vistra said it completed a 65 MWdc/50 MWac solar project at the Brightside Solar Facility, which is now online in Southeast Texas.

Brightside Solar Facility uses 147,732 of First Solar's 440-watt thin-film solar modules with single-axis trackers. The project also includes a 34.5 kV to 69 kV interconnecting substation in anticipation of a future utility upgrade of the existing 69 kV transmission line to a 138 kV line.

Burns & McDonnell provided engineering, procurement, and construction services for the solar farm and interconnecting substation.

Brightside Solar Facility is the first piece of Vistra's zero-carbon project plan in Texas. The company said it plans to complete six more renewable and energy storage projects in the ERCOT market over the next several years.

Vistra's 260 MW/260 MWh DeCordova Energy Storage Facility in Hood County, Texas and 108 MW Emerald Grove Solar Facility in Crane County, Texas are expected to come online later this year.

The retail electricity provider and generator plans to grow its zero-carbon portfolio to 7,300 MW by 2026 as part of the "Vistra Zero" framework.

The Vistra Zero plan will represent nearly $1 billion in capital investment, according to Vistra.
