Atheists Helping the Homeless, DC Is Awarded a Food Security Grant from Go Humanity

By: PRLog

Atheists Helping the Homeless, DC (AHHDC) announces that it is the recipient of a Food Security Project grant from Go Humanity.

WASHINGTON - June 29, 2022 - PRLog -- Atheists Helping the Homeless, DC (AHHDC) is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a GO Teams Food Security Project grant (Go Humanity; www.GoHumanity.world). The Food Security Project was launched in May 2021 to address food insecurity through localized efforts and widespread impact. The Go Humanity Food Insecurity Grant will provide $100 a month for 12 months to help AHHDC achieve its goals.

Food insecurity is described as "a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle. Go Humanity reports, "Recently, after decades of progress, there was a sudden and rapid rise in global food insecurity — affecting 42 million Americans and 690 million people around the world."

Through donations, the AHHDC collects simple items that people experiencing homelessness might need, carriable materials. They distribute light-weight toiletries and other small items (Hygiene Kits) to people who walk everywhere they go. Such items include nail clippers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, small flashlights, soap, and socks, etc. In winter they provide gloves. Additionally, community donations of shoes, backpacks, and blankets are also distributed ad hoc.

AHHDC will be providing nonperishable food items such as pouches of chicken or tuna, breakfast bars, and bottled water with the help of the grant from the Go Humanity Food Security grant in addition to the Hygiene Kits. AHHDC CEO, Joseph Shaw, reported that the Go Humanity Food Security grant will significantly help AHHDC achieve its goal of helping people without homes. Currently, the AHHDC operates in Silver Spring, MD and Georgetown, Washington DC. With the help of the Go Humanity Food Security grant, volunteers, and community donations, the AHHDC hopes to expand operations to new areas of Montgomery County and Washington DC.

The AHHDC is a group of atheist and humanist volunteers, but they cannot be just atheists. They are citizens. They want to help, to give, to learn, and to receive. There is nothing to stop them, as atheists, from believing in basic human goodness and wanting to nurture that. They have ethics; they have moral compasses. They are integral parts of our society and are proud to be your family, your friends, and your neighbors and they want to help our community.

The AHHDC operates entirely through donations. PLEASE MAKE DONATIONS AT THE WEBSITE:  www.atheistshelping.org. You may write to the AHHDC at atheistshelping@gmail.com.
