Insurance companies inconsistent on windshield crack repair

By: PRLog

TAMPA, Fla. - March 21, 2023 - PRLog -- Windshield replacement is the most effective auto glass repair

Windshield crack repair is an inconsistent topic when it comes to insurance company recommendations. Repairs that may seem cost-effective in the short term often prove ineffective in the long run compared to full windshield replacement.

"We find customers are more satisfied with the results of full windshield replacement rather than settling for windshield crack repair," notes Casey Lang, owner and Chief Operating Officer of Same Day Windshields. "When replacing a windshield we partner with Same Day Calibrations to ensure accurate calibration of systems."

Same Day Windshields' mobile technicians perform windshield and other auto glass replacement instead of windshield crack repair or other auto glass repair in the Tampa and Fort Myers, Florida, service areas for customers who carry insurance as well as cash customers.

Windshield crack repair will not work for all types of damage

Cracks often remain visible after even the best of windshield crack repair efforts because dirt, dust, sand and other particles become trapped inside the crack. The primary reason vehicle owners are less satisfied with windshield crack repair as opposed to full windshield replacement comes down to the integrity of the glass. Cracks that begin on the edge or corner of the windshield may not hold a repair.

Insurance policies in Florida usually cover minor chip repairs, but they may recommend full windshield replacement if a chip is in the driver's line of view or if it has begun to develop a crack beyond the initial damage. Cracks and chips may expand in Florida's warm temperatures and then require windshield replacement.

Florida statute encourages full windshield replacement by requiring insurance companies to eliminate the deductible resulting in zero out-of-pocket cost to the policyholder who carries full coverage. This means there is no additional charge to customers for full windshield replacement and calibration as opposed to windshield crack repair.
